Requirements

Qualifications
Current Federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade or equivalent grade band in the Federal service. The time-in-grade and qualification requirements must be met within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement.
You qualify for this position at the GS-11 level (starting salary $72,974) if you possess the following: One full year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade (GS-12) in the Federal Service. This experience may have been gained in the federal government, a state or local government, a non-profit organization, the private sector, or as a volunteer; however, your resume must clearly describe at least one year of specialized experience. Specialized experience for this position includes:
Providing direct technical assistance, guidance and support to State, local and Tribal governments in their implementation of the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP), andConduct briefings such as survey of flood disaster areas, to promote the National Flood Insurance Program and other related programs, and
Review community flood damage prevention ordinances, and
Prepare official reports identifying hazard mitigation operating practices, andProficiency in MS Office software such as MS Word and Excel.

You qualify for this position at the GS-12 level (starting salary $87,466) if you possess the following: One full year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade (GS-13) in the Federal Service. This experience may have been gained in the federal government, a state or local government, a non-profit organization, the private sector, or as a volunteer; however, your resume must clearly describe at least one year of specialized experience. Specialized experience for this position includes:
Conduct data analysis and preparation of verbal, technical and written reports for management, and• Skill in written and oral communications to prepare memoranda, instructions, and present recommendations and solutions persuasively and effectively, and• Reviewing National Flood Insurance Program and 44 CFR 60.3 regulations and guidance documents and interpreting the laws, regulations, and policies applicable to FEMA, and• Promotes the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) which has a goal to reduce the impact of flooding on private and public structures by providing affordable insurance for property owners, and• Encourages communities to adopt and enforce floodplain management regulations, which will mitigate the effects of flooding on new and improved structures, and• Proficiency in MS Office software such as MS Word and Excel.Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g. Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills, and provides valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
