This position is located in the Office of the Chief Immigration Judge in an Immigration Court. Selectee will serve as a Court Administrator (CA) responsible for managing the full range of CA responsibilities. The incumbent will oversee all administrative and managerial functions necessary to maintain and facilitate Immigration Court operations. This is a Competitive Service position; additional positions may be filled from this announcement within 90 days of certificate issuance.

Duties

Due to COVID-19, the agency is currently in an expanded telework posture. If selected, you may be expected to temporarily telework, even if your home is located outside the local commuting area. Once employees are permitted to return to the office, you will be expected to report to the duty station listed on this announcement once determined by your component. At that time, you may be eligible to request to continue to telework one or more days a pay period depending upon the terms of the agency's telework policy. Duties include but are not limited to the following: Managing administrative functions to facilitate immigration court operations in support of the adjudication of deportation, exclusion, removal and related immigration cases. Overseeing court management process of filing charging documents, motions and appeals through processing of cases from initial creation to record of proceeding case filings and final disposition. Monitoring the docketing of all matters and case processing in compliance with the Uniform Docket System Manual and ensure cases proceed to the hearing process in an expeditious manner. Supervising clerical and administrative support staff personnel within the designated Immigration Court.

Qualifications

In order to qualify for the Supervisory Legal Administrative Specialist (Court Administrator) position, you must meet the following time in grade requirements and minimum qualifications: TIME-IN-GRADE REQUIREMENTS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-13 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-14 level. (Please submit your SF-50 that shows Time-in-Grade eligibility and reflects your title, series, and grade. If your eligibility for both merit promotion and/or time-in-grade cannot be determined, your application will be rated ineligible. Please see Required Documents for additional information). AND FOR THE GS-14 LEVEL: Specialized Experience: Applicants must have at least one or more full-time years (12-months) of specialized work experience, equivalent to at least the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service, performing the following duties: Managing a docketing system in a judicial work setting; Monitoring the processing of cases from the initial creation to record of proceeding and final disposition in a judicial setting (i.e., hearing room); Managing a variety of administrative functions in a judicial setting, AND Interpreting and applying knowledge of legal statutes, codes, regulations, administrative guidelines, and policies affecting the operations of a court or judicial setting.
