This position is in the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Management Directorate, Federal Protective Service (FPS). The FPS mission is to prevent, protect, respond to, and recover from terrorism, criminal acts, and other hazards threatening the US Government's critical infrastructure, services, and the people who provide or receive them.

Duties

As a Writer - Editor, GS-1082-11/12, your typical work assignments may include: Determining the clearest and most logical way to present information based on targeted audience's knowledge base and diversity(s). Editing material developed by other writers. Creating, maintaining, and updating an online help documentation. Providing comprehensive editorial and production support required for hardcopy and electronic publication. Using desktop publishing hardware and software to develop designs, tables, figures, or charts to depict material/data as needed to support conclusions. Conducting research to develop authoritative information that will be reflected in briefings covering topics pertaining to the organization's missions, polices, functions, goals, programs, priorities, activities and accomplishments. Qualifications

Applicants must demonstrate that they meet the Minimum Qualification requirements as noted below. GS-11 Qualifications Specialized Experience: Applicant must demonstrate one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-9 level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors) performing the following duties: Gathering information for assignments by studying related information to present clear and thorough material; Conducting research to develop information for organizational meetings; and Reviewing content by using established standards. NOTE: Your resume must explicitly demonstrate how you meet this requirement, otherwise you will be found ineligible. -OR- Have successfully completed a Doctorate or Ph.D., or three (3) full years (54 semester hours or equivalent) of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such at degree; or equivalent degree (LL.M if related), at an accredited college or university in a field that provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work. NOTE: A copy of your transcripts must be included with your application to support this response. -OR- Have a combination of Graduate Education and Experience: (To calculate, first determine your total number of graduate semester hours, and divide that number by 18. Next, divide the total number of months of qualifying experience by 12. Then, add your percentage of education and experience. The two percentages must total at least 100% for you to qualify based on your combination of education and experience.) Only graduate education in excess of two years (i.e., 36 semester hours or above the Master's level) may be combined with experience. NOTE: You must include copies of your transcript(s) with your application to verify eligibility. GS-12 Qualifications: Specialized Experience: Applicant must demonstrate one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-11 level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors) performing the following duties: Using publishing software to develop designs, tables, figures and/or charts to support conclusions; Writing and editing content to include website material and/or press releases on program topics; and Monitoring program activities to maintain up-to-date knowledge of pertinent media coverage. NOTE: Your resume must explicitly demonstrate how you meet this requirement, otherwise you will be found ineligible. Time-in-Grade Requirements: Under competitive merit promotion procedures, any individual who is currently holding, or who has held within the previous 52 weeks, a General Schedule position under a non-temporary appointment in the competitive or excepted service, must meet "time-in-grade" requirements (have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade of the grade for which you are applying). Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to current competitive service employees applying for a Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. NOTE: All current or former Federal employees must provide a copy of their SF-50 (you may need to submit more than one), "Notice of Personnel Action" that indicates proof of status and time-in-grade eligibility. The SF-50 must include your position, title, series, grade, step, tenure (1 or 2), and type of service (Competitive or Excepted). You may need to submit more than one SF-50 to comply. All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement. Qualification claims will be subject to verification. NOTE: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
