About the Position: This position is located within a Navy Bureau of Medicine and Surgery (BUMED) activity Portsmouth, Tidewater Market. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation

Duties

Registration of new patients, correcting registrations and submitting trouble tickets to connect them Reviews and analyzes medical records to ensure that the necessary components of the medical record are present, complete, and filed in proper sequence. Ensures terminology used by the clinicians are appropriate and valid, the contents of the record are internally consistent, and that the record is sufficiently complete to furnish the desired date for a variety of purposes Releases PIIl in response to inquiries from medical providers, patients, their authorized representatives, and other parties such as law firms, insurance companies, etc. Must determine the validity of each request and provide the proper and accurate Plil forms, compose letters in response to inquiries as needed. Performs weekly quality reviews that includes review and screening of medical records to ensure medical records are properly filed and sequenced.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination
  • Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based on occupational risk, regardless of job series.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing any one of the following; registering patients into an automated medical record system; releasing information to patients, legal firms and insurance companies; scanning documents into an automated medical record system and verifying insurance eligibility. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04). OR Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.
