The selectee will serve as Computer Scientist in the Office of Investigations, Criminal Investigative Division. Typical work assignments include:

Qualifications
Basic Requirement:
Bachelor's degree in computer science or bachelor's degree with 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science. At least 15 of the 30 semester hours must have included any combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus. All academic degrees and course work must be from accredited or pre-accredited institutions.
Evaluation of Education:
Applicants should have sufficient knowledge to understand the fundamental concepts and techniques of computer science. Courses designed to provide an introduction to computer science techniques and methodologies, to problems of system design, and to other specialized fields are acceptable. Courses or experience in teaching elementary, business, or shop mathematics are not acceptable.
In addition to the basic requirements, you qualify if you possess one of the following:
You qualify for the GS-09 level (starting salary $64,957) if you possess one of the following:
Specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level performing duties such as: documenting and developing software, testing and debugging software; performing complex database queries and performing basic database queries; installing, configuring, and maintaining virtual/physical servers; and troubleshooting and monitoring virtual and physical servers; documenting and implementing switch/layer 2 network configurations; and providing physical connectivity to networked devices; and monitoring and managing physical and virtual storage appliances; OR
must have 2 years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree. This degree must be directly related to the work of the position in fields such as Computer Science, Computer Programming, Information Systems Information Science, Data Science, Computer networking or security; Computer Engineering, Information Technology, Information Security, Information Assurance, Cyber Security or Mathematics. Note: All degrees listed other than Computer Science must contain the amount and type of coursework equivalent to a Computer Science major; OR
An appropriate combination of specialized experience and graduate education in related fields described above.
You qualify for the GS-11 level (starting salary $78,592) if you possess one of the following:
Specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 level performing duties such as: defining and developing data pipelines; documenting and developing software; and testing and debugging software; creating and managing data connections; performing complex database queries; and performing basic database queries; managing and maintaining virtual host configurations for virtualization; installing, configuring, and maintaining virtual/physical document and implementing routing/layer 3 network configurations; documenting and implementing switch/layer 2 network configurations; and providing physical connectivity to networked devices; diagnosing storage issues; configuring storage and backup systems; providing storage resources; and monitoring virtual storage appliances; OR
3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree. This degree must be directly related to the work of the position in fields such as Computer Science, Computer Programming, Information Systems Information Science, Data Science, Computer networking or security; Computer Engineering, Information Technology, Information Security, Information Assurance, Cyber Security or Mathematics. Note: All degrees listed other than Computer Science must contain the amount and type of coursework equivalent to a Computer Science major; OR
An appropriate combination of specialized experience and graduate education in related fields described above. Only graduate education more than 36 semester hours may be used to qualify for this grade level.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
