Duties
As the primary Legal Assistant (Office Automation) in the Appellate Division you will serve as the focal point in providing expert advice on legal support work and will perform the most difficult and complex support assignments for Assistant U.S. Attorneys.
Duties include:
Examining, preparing and processing a wide variety of complex legal documents;
Proofreading and cite checking legal briefs, memoranda, and other legal documents;
Providing assistance to attorneys by conducting legal research of litigation, statutes, regulations and court cases;
Compiling and indexing bibliographies of source material;
Assembling and organizing files and records;
Analyzing and reviewing all incoming legal documents to determine what action is required;
Producing a variety of written documents and materials using a wide range of office software applications.
Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.
Requirements
- You must be a U.S. Citizen or National
- Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory pre-employment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation
- You must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable
- If selected, you may be required to complete a one year probationary period.
- You must meet all qualification requirements upon the closing date of this announcement.
Qualifications
GS 08: To be eligible at the GS 08 level, you must meet the definition of Specialized Experience, as defined below:
Specialized experience:One full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS 07 level in the federal service. Specialized experience is defined as providing highly complex, technical legal support requiring complex legal research and analysis, as well as knowledge and interpretation, adaptation, and application of legal regulations, techniques, and procedures; and using software applications and legal and non-legal databases to produce legal related reports and documents, conduct factual research, develop tables of contents and indices to briefs.
Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP)- The ICTAP provides eligible displaced Federal competitive service employees with selection priority over other candidates for competitive service vacancies.
