This position will serve as a Health Technician (Paramedic) in the Emergency Department of the Phoenix Indian Medical Center located in Phoenix, Arizona. The primary function of this position is to provide direct patient care performing advanced technical health care functions within the scope of practice in the Emergency Department in response to injuries and illnesses across the lifespan. This position will report to the Emergency Room Supervisory Clinical Nurse (SCN).

Duties

Develops a plan to provide direct patient care to clients, which involves the assessment and evaluation applicable to emergent care Provides interventions based on triage decisions and evaluates effectiveness of interventions. Performs Paramedic (EMT-P) duties by identifying and treating trauma and/or medical emergencies using acquired knowledge and skill in emergency medicine techniques Assists other units with IV starts and coverage in crisis situations Assists in crisis situations and maintains professional knowledge and proficiency through continuing education, staff meetings, workshops, and serving on committees.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:GS-0640-06: One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or task: Independently conducts a complete assessment, using knowledge of topographic anatomy, major body systems, emergency medicine techniques, ability to sufficiently understand the legal considerations of emergency care. GS-0640-07:One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or task: Identifies and treats trauma/medical emergencies using advanced knowledge and skill in emergency medicine techniques, employee identifies the signs and symptoms of life-threatening and non-life-threatening medical trauma injuries. Selective Placement Factor: In addition to the minimum requirements, the following certification is determined to be essential to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position. Applicants must possess and provide proof from either a national certifying organization such as: 1) National Registry of Emergency Medical Technician (NREMT) OR 2) Bureau of Emergency Medical Services and Trauma System in Arizona: a. Emergency Medical Technician Paramedic (EMT-P), OR b. National Paramedic Certification (NRP). Applicants who do not meet a selective placement factor are ineligible for further consideration. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
