About the Position: As Chief of the Advertising & Public Affairs Division (A&PA) you will be planning, directing and supervising the activities of the office and all assigned personnel. You are the principal technical advisor to the Battalion (BN) Commander on all facets of advertising, promotional and public affairs programs within the BN area of responsibility. Serves on the staff of the BN Commander and exercises staff supervision over A&PA activities in recruiting companies and stations.
Duties
Plans, develops, and manages advertising programs for Active Army and U.S. Army Reserve recruiting within the Battalion area.
Plans and supervises sales promotion activities within the Battalion area.
Plans and supervises all aspects of Command information, public information, and community relations within the Battalion.
Supervises and directs the work activities of 2 civilian employees.
Requirements
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 20% of the time.
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires a valid State motor vehicle operator's license prior to appointment and the ability to maintain the license for the duration of employment.
- May be required to complete a 1 year supervisory probation period.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Specialized Experience:
One year of specialized experience which includes work that involves leading, planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating a public affairs program; developing and writing information and advertising materials for dissemination through a variety of public entities; applying effective oral and written communication; use desktop publishing techniques or other equivalent experience related to this position. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).

Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.
