The Public Affairs Specialist position reports to the Chief of Staff in the Office of the Chairman and will work with the Chief of Staff and the Senior Advisor for Legislative and Public Affairs to conduct day-to-day operational public affairs tasks. Duties

The following are the duties of this position at the GS-13. You will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties and will receive training to help you grow in this position. Organizes and coordinates news media interviews for the Chair and other Commission staff. Coordinates with trade association representatives and other external parties regarding the logistics for speaking engagements for the Chair and other Commission staff and participate in the preparation of briefing memoranda or talking points. Drafts press releases, prepares briefing books and drafts of speeches/talking points, coordinates with the Communications Team and the Office of the Secretary to update the Commission's Events page and other website content, and updates the Commission's social media pages. Researches, develops, and implements informational materials and presentations with the purpose of educating a diverse audience of internal and external customers and the public regarding Commission functions, programs, and initiatives, including those that result from statutory or regulatory changes. The Public Affairs Specialist will formulate and deliver workshops, seminars, and other meetings with organizations that interact with the Commission to educate about the Commission's policies and programs. Organizes, conducts, and leads complex brainstorming sessions that aid in planning and executing communication strategies to disseminate and share agency information through various communication mediums. Analyzes and assembles data, coordinates with the Communication Team and other staff/offices and briefs on best courses of action for assignments. Collaborates and participates fully with the Communications Team on the annual Strategic Communications Plan for the Commission designed to incorporate all known events for the calendar year. Prepares contingency plans that support the agency.

Qualifications

You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement: GS-09: One (1) year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes assisting in writing and developing articles, news releases, and social media posts; drafting reports, talking points, briefing packets and power point presentations; assisting others in the use of social media, radio, television, newspapers, fact sheets, and/or the internet within an organization; and researching organizational programs, activities and/or functions for the preparation of communications to general audiences of directives and the design, documentation and implementation of various reporting systems. OR Two (2) full years of graduate education or a master's degree, LL. B, J.D., or equivalent degree that demonstrates the competencies needed to do the work of the position may be substituted for the experience required. OR Combination of Education and Experience. Please note that only graduate education in excess of the first full year is creditable towards meeting the specialized experience/education requirement at the GS-09 grade level.
