Join the team! This position is located in the Division of Enforcement & Litigation, Office of Compliance & Field Operations. The Office identifies and investigates potentially hazardous products; enforces mandatory standards & regulations; negotiates voluntary recalls, other corrective actions & civil penalties; conducts administrative litigation to obtain mandatory recalls; and assists in the drafting & review of rules and regulations affecting CPSC’s compliance and enforcement authority.
Duties
As a Senior Attorney in one of the three branches in the Division of Enforcement & Litigation (CEL), you will serve as a legal and enforcement lead on all matters related to investigations involving potentially hazardous and violative consumer products, corrective action negotiations and agreements, litigation, and civil penalty investigations, negotiations, and referrals. The Senior Attorney’s duties include:

Qualifications
In addition to the mandatory education requirement, applicants must have 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the candidate with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position.
Qualifying specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
1) Developing investigative and legal strategy; 2) Drafting and reviewing pleadings; 3) Engaging in case settlements 4) Conducting hearings or trials; 5) Assisting or advising other employees in investigative and litigation strategies, processes, and procedures.

Education
Basic Requirement: All applicants must possess a J.D. or LL.B. degree and be an active member of the bar in good standing in any state, territory of the United States, the District of Columbia, or the commonwealth of Puerto Rico.
In addition to basic requirement and qualifying specialized experience, applicants must have five years of experience as a practicing attorney (post bar admission).
All applicants are required to provide proof of current, active bar membership and proof of good standing.
