Duties

Coordinates and plans special events and distinguished visits to the USAF Academy. Performs other organizational work in support of the office/organization. Responsible for maintaining budget and accounting records and gift inventory as assigned. Responsible for various institution databases and miscellaneous administrative support programs.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance
  • Travel and Relocation Expenses will not be paid
  • This position is subject to provisions of the DoD Priority Placement Program

  • Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft
  • Required to work an uncommon tour of duty and frequently scheduled and unscheduled overtime. Work after normal business hours is expected and should be anticipated.
  • The work requires the employee to drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate, valid driver?s license is required for the position.
  • Employee must possess the ability to perform moderate physical activity involving lifting, brisk walking, and standing for long periods of time. Pre-Employment physical required.
  • Due to unusual circumstance (i.e. serve weather, base closures) may have to telework on an ad hoc basis
  • Employee must be able to attend a two-week Protocol fundamentals training course at Maxwell AFB, AL

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Clerical and Administrative Support Positions. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-06, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes knowledge and skill in applying analytical and evaluative planning methods, procedures, and techniques to conventional issues concerning the efficiency and effectiveness of protocol operations; practical knowledge of organization, programs, mission, and functions of the assigned organization and agency in order to plan, schedule, and coordinate protocol responsibilities; knowledge of proper protocol courtesies to bestow on visitors primarily from within the Department of Defense and commonly found throughout agency; ability to research special protocol and visiting requirements of high ranking officials to include general officers on occasion as well as knowledge required to determine appropriate procedures, honors, and level of involvement required by organization leadership; knowledge standard office automation software programs for use on a personal computer in an office environment; and practical knowledge of pertinent budgeting and accounting practices and procedures to project, monitor, and document collection and expenditure of funds. FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-06 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-07 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Knowledge of, and ability to successfully apply military protocol, etiquette manuals and guides, USAF and Command policies, regulations, agency policy, practices and procedures to organize and oversee protocol events. 2. Knowledge of, and ability to successfully apply standard protocol courtesies to be accorded to distinguished visitors primarily from the United States and within the Department of Defense. 3. Detailed knowledge and thorough understanding of regulations and procedures affecting Official Representation Funds (ORF), Special Morale and Welfare (SM&W) Funds and Operations and Maintenance Funds (O&M) and skill in applying basic resource, budget and funds management. 4. Knowledge of organizational components and functions located throughout the agency. 5. Ability to independently plan individual workload to meet deadlines and coordinate event support requirements with a variety of organizations and use various office automation software such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
