This position is located in the Audiology and Speech Pathology Service (ASPS) at the Atlanta VA medical Center. The duties and responsibilities are carried out throughout the organization at all clinical and patient care areas involved with the Rehabilitation Service Line including all community-based outpatient clinic locations. The Supervisory Audiologist is assigned to a primary duty station and specific sites of supervision, but may cover at other sites in accordance with facility policy.
Duties
Duties include but not limited to:Administrative Responsibilities:
Assists the Chief of Audiology and Speech Pathology in developing, organizing, directing, managing, supervising, and implementing policies and procedures for audiologists.
Exercises supervisory responsibilities such as planning and scheduling work, assigning work to audiologists, accepting, amending or rejecting completed work, assuring that production and accuracy requirements are met, appraising performance and recommending performance standards and ratings, assigning delineated clinical privileges, approving leave, and effecting disciplinary measures.
Uses ability to articulate and communicate assignments, projects, problems to be solved, actionable events, and objectives, as well as advise on work methods, practices, and procedures.
Uses ability to coach the clinical team in the selection and application of appropriate problem solving methods and techniques.
Serves as facilitator and/or negotiator in coordinating initiatives and consensus building activities among clinical team members with wide divergent backgrounds, interests, and points of views.
Skill in problem solving and conflict resolution.
Clinical:
Advanced knowledge of anatomy, physiology, acoustics, applied acoustics, communication psychoacoustics, and auditory and vestibular pathophysiology.
Advanced skills to perform and interpret diagnostic and electrophysiologic tests to a full range of patient populations.
Advanced skills to provide treatment and interventions including analysis and fitting of advanced amplification technology and signal processing algorithms to a full range of patient populations.
Advanced knowledge and ability to perform functions associated with contemporary audiology scope of practice.
Frequent interaction with other staff throughout the medical center to perform multiple duties for the diagnostic- testing, assessment and follow-up treatment of veteran patients.
Demonstration of extensive experience, mature professional judgment and ability to work without supervision.
Applies current technology available in the field of hearing aids, assistive devices, sound processors, etc., to the rehabilitation of hearing-impaired patients.
Coordinates care for dizzy patients between Primary Care, ENT, Neurology, and Physical Therapy.
Performs other duties as assigned by leadership.

Qualifications
Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.
Basic Requirements:
United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
Education:
(1) Doctor of Audiology (AuD) from an audiology program recognized by the Council on Academic Accreditation (CAA) of the American Speech Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). The CAA is the only accreditation agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (USDE) and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation to accredit entry-level audiology programs. HR office staff and management officials may verify the program accredited from CAA at www.caa.asha.org. OR
(2) Other doctoral degree in hearing science or a directly related field from an institution accredited by an accrediting institution recognized by the USDE. NOTE: Effective January 1, 2007, the CAA in Audiology and Speech Language Pathology of ASHA accredits only doctoral degree or AuD programs in audiology.
Licensure: Individuals must hold a full, current and unrestricted license to practice audiology at the doctoral level in a United States state, territory, commonwealth or the District of Columbia.
English Language Proficiency: Audiologist candidates must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. ? 7403(f).
May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria).
Grade Determinations:
Supervisory Audiologist, GS-13.
Experience: At least two years of experience as a professional audiologist, with at least one year comparable to the next lower grade level. This experience includes and is not limited to: Serve as consultants to other health care professionals and are recognized subject matter experts (SME) on matters related to hearing, tinnitus and balance disorders. Diagnose audiologic disorders, conduct audiologic or neuro-audiologic assessments, treat auditory disorders through a various modalities and provide adjunctive interventions for the treatment of medical disorders. Consult with medical center staff on various patient care issues. Among the modalities provided are individual, family and group audiologic rehabilitation.
Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs): In addition to the KSAs required at the full performance level, the candidate must demonstrate the KSAs identified below.

(b) Skill in applying evidence-based practices in a professional area.
(c) Ability to analyze organizational and operational challenges to develop and implement solutions.
(d) Ability to develop the abilities and strengths of current employees.
(e) Ability to balance responsibilities, set priorities and delegate tasks to meet multiple deadlines.
(f) Ability to analyze data to manage workload, quality, performance and productivity within the section

Physical Requirements: Requires periods of sitting, bending, reaching, crouching, stooping, stretching, and lifting (under 15 pounds); light carrying (under 15 pounds); use of fingers and both hands required; good vision with corrective glasses or contacts; or hearing with aid. Applicants must be physically and mentally able to efficiently perform the essential functions of the position without hazard to themselves or others.
