Duties
As a Research Audiologist, you will:
Coordinate with scientists in an area requiring a systematic attack on problems recognized as difficult; or is independently responsible for attacking difficult research problems; or provides technical guidance in broad subject matter areas.
Participate with senior CDC officials in the formulation and integration of NCEH/ATSDR (National Center for Environmental Health / Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry) programs.
Participate in the development of policy and educational documents and on national and international review and advisory panels.
Provide consultation on epidemiological and/or exposure aspects of the design and interpretation of research studies, including the selection of tests to be employed and the potential risks to study participants of the testing procedures.

Current or Former Political Appointees: Agencies must seek prior approval from the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) before they can appoint a current or recent political appointee to a competitive or non-political excepted service position at any level under the provisions of title 5, United States Code. Basic Qualifications:
Graduate or higher-level graduate degree that included 18 semester hours in the field of audiology with approved clinical practice. The degree must have been approved, recognized, or accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (CAA) of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) at the time the degree was obtained.
Additional Requirement: (Licensure)
Possess a full, current, and unrestricted license to practice Audiology as applicable in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify at the GS-15 grade level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-14 grade level, which must include the following experience coordinating, conducting, and evaluating the effects of exposure to noise and hearing loss research studies; and generating peer-reviewed publications related to occupational safety and public health
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Education
A copy of your transcripts or equivalent documentation is required for positions with an education requirement, or if you are qualifying based on education or a combination of education and experience. An official transcript will be required if you are selected.
