About the Position: The Cook position is in the Nutrition Care Division at Darnall Army Community Hospital located on Fort Hood. Performs a variety of food service duties assigned in the Production and Service Branch.

Duties

Prepare limited breakfast foods that will involve grilling or frying. Perform regular and modified salad preparation tasks such as making fruit and vegetable salads; cutting, scraping, chopping, dicing, and peeling fruits and vegetables. Set up and replenishing the salad bar in accordance to established procedures. Perform ingredient measurement tasks. Weigh vegetables and fruits in accordance with instructions and directions provided. Perform patient tray service duties to include the assembly of patient trays. Replenish food to service counters, steam tables, and side service stands with hot and cold foods. Arrange food items for regular and modified diets.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
  • Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
  • This position may require rotating shifts (i.e. work schedule that requires employees to continuously rotate from one shift to another at predetermined intervals).
  • This position may require the incumbent to work weekends and/or holidays.
  • Moderate to heavy lifting up to 45 pounds is required.
  • Position is designated as Mission Essential. The incumbent will be required to report to work during times of contingency operations, natural disasters, extreme weather or other emergency situations.

Frequently lifts or moves objects weighing up to 45 pounds and occasionally lifts or moves objects weighing over 45 pounds with the assistance of lifting devices or other workers. WORKING CONDITIONS: The work is performed in kitchen area, which is well lighted but is often hot and noisy. Is exposed to steam, fumes, and odors from cooking and to extreme temperature changes when entering walk-in refrigeration or freezing units. There is danger of slipping on wet floors that have been recently mopped or where food has been spilled. Is subject to possible cuts from knives and burns from steam, hot foods, stoves, and hot grease and water. Hearing protective devices and/or other protective devices and/or safety equipment must be worn during all periods of time incumbent is exposed to the hazardous condition(s).
