About the Position: This is a Cook WG-7408-06 position with Army Medical Center Darnall - Nutrition Care located at Fort Cavazos, Texas

Duties

Examine food for quality and freshness before preparation. Communicate with supervisor/dispatcher in accordance with established procedures and timetables. Operate a variety of kitchen equipment using gas, electricity, steam or microwave heat sources. Prepare high quality foods to order in a professional manner. Use knowledge of cooking procedures used for preparing regular and diet meals. Portion food according to nutritional standards.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position may include shift work (evenings, weekends, holidays).
  • Moderate to heavy lifting up to 45 pounds is required.
  • Position is designated as Mission Essential. The incumbent will be required to report to work during times of contingency operations, natural disasters, extreme weather or other emergency situations.
  • One year trial/probationary period may be required.
  • Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
  • Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.

However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Cook ~ without more than normal supervision. Such work includes a demonstrated experience performing regular and modified salad preparation tasks; preparing service stands; collecting and removing used dishes and utensils to dishwashing area; preparing sandwich items for the short order line - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Work involves continual standing and walking and stooping, reaching, pushing and pulling and loading. Frequent testing, moving and lifting of objects weighing up to 40 pounds (e.g., utensils or containers of food, with occasional lifting of heavier items (e.g., pans of meat) with the assistance of lifting devices or other workers. WORKING CONDITIONS: The work is performed in kitchen areas, which are well lighted but are often hot and noisy. The incumbent is exposed to steam, fumes, and odors from cooking and to extreme temperature changes when entering walk-in refrigeration or freezing units. The incumbent is subject to danger of slipping on wet floors that have been recently mopped or where food has been spilled and is subject to possible cuts from knives and burns from steam, hot foods, stoves, and hot grease and water. Hearing protective devices and/or other protective devices and/or safety equipment must be worn during all periods of time incumbent is exposed to hazardous conditions(s).
