The primary purpose of this position is to assist in organizing and leading a broad range of recreational activities.
Duties
Assists in planning and conducting a variety of recreation activities for eligible patrons, in accordance with established agency and MAJCOM policies and objectives.
Issues, receives, inspects, cleans, repairs and/or replaces recreation checkout equipment., briefs users on equipment functions and limitations.
Ensures safety orientation and standard operating procedures are provided to participants and volunteers are trained regarding rules, regulations, and requirements for specialized activities.
Coordinates with existing off-base agencies to develop recreational opportunities.
Ensures cleanliness and sanitation of the cardio/weight rooms, gymnasium, racquetball court and towels. Maintains Fitness Center resale operation and JIT program.
Maintains recreation records and files.

Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Technical and Medical Support Positions, Recreation Aid and Assistant Series 0189.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-04, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes conducting a variety of recreation activities for eligible patrons, identifying need for repair and/or replacement of missing parts, cleaning equipment and machines to maintain facility, arranging safety classes and inspections, developing recreational opportunities, managing Information Ticket and Travel (ITT) offices, and maintaining records and reports such as participation figures, training records, event evaluations, release forms and program surveys.
OR
EDUCATION: Successful completion of a 4-year course of study above high school leading to a bachelor's degree with major study or at least 24 semester hours in courses related to recreation or physical education. NOTE: You must submit a copy of your transcripts.

COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. NOTE: You must submit a copy of your transcripts.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
l. Knowledge of a variety of recreation activities, programs and equipment.
2. Ability to properly apply the principles, concepts and techniques of recreation to plan and carry out a military recreation program to meet the needs of the participating community.
3. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with diverse group of individuals.
4. Knowledge of specific federal, state and local safety program requirements which cover a variety of recreation activities.
5. Ability to lead and train others.
6. Ability to gather, compile and maintain pertinent data.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
