This position operates within the Veteran Transportation program within the Phoenix VA Health Care System. The Transportation Assistant functions within Patient Operations Section of Business Operations Service and is responsible for the administration coordination of all patient transportation for Phoenix VA Medical Center and 8 outlying clinics. This includes Advanced Life Support Ambulance, Basic Life Support Ambulance, Air Ambulance, Commercial Air, Wheel Chair Van, Stretcher Van and Taxi.
Duties

Major duties and responsibilities include:
Coordinating wheelchair, taxi and/or ambulatory transports with authorized transportation request.
Planning and arranging for commercial or contracted transport.
Determining, verifying, and/or explaining eligibility for arranging transportation of dependents, escorts, and care givers for interfacility transfers and transplant transfers.
Coordinating and advising administrative and professional staff regarding bed confirmation, transfer of records, transportation availability and approval criteria relating to transfer to other facilities.
Planning and organizing the details associated with inter-facility transfers of inpatients to both medical and administrative staff involved with patient movements, including availability, record preparation and activation of travel arrangements.
Facilitating authorized inter-facility transfers from any VA Medical Center Community Living Facilities, Domiciliary or Outpatient Clinic from any health care facility which the VA has contracted with to provide care to a veteran determined to be eligible for Beneficiary travel benefits.
Arranging for pickup of patient at destination, communicating with carriers and hospitals and completing all phases required in negotiating transfers.
Performing other duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:30am to 4:00pm

Qualifications
IN ORDER TO QUALIFY FOR THIS POSITION AT THE GS-7 LEVEL YOU MUST MEET THE FOLLOWING:
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: You must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-6 level in the Federal service, that equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to successfully perform the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of a Transportation Assistant. Specialized experience includes coordinating patient transportation such as wheelchair, taxi and/or ambulatory transports; determining eligibility and processing transportation requests; verifying invoices for payment; maintaining manual and computerized logs. (THIS EXPERIENCE MUST BE SUPPORTED BY YOUR RESUME TO BE CREDITABLE.)

IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements: Employee will be exposed to stressful working situations that will require a mature altitude and collective reasoning to overcome. The employee is subject to a great deal of stress because of the high volume of work, the need for accuracy, frequency of interruptions and ever-changing demands due to program changes.
