Duties

Plans, organizes, and oversees operational activities of the 611 Air Communications Squadron. Exercises supervisory personnel management responsibilities. Represents 611 Air Communications Squadron with a variety of installation and functional area organizations. Performs services as a senior systems administrator. Manages mission knowledge, information, and situational awareness processes and systems for operational and tactical operating centers and units.

  • Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft. The employee may be required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
  • The work requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance.
  • A 1-year supervisory probationary period will be required, if not previously met.
  • Recall to duty may be a requirement of this position. Overtime and/or emergency overtime may be required. Employee may be required to perform various additional duties.
  • DoD National Relocation Program (DNRP) may be authorized.

  • Information Assurance Certification is a condition of employment. This position includes information assurance (IA) work as a paramount duty requirement.
  • Per DOD 8570.01-M, the incumbent of this position must achieve the appropriate IA certification within six months of assignment of these duties. A waiver of this six month requirement may be granted per DOD 8570.01-M, C3.2.4.2 or C3.2.4.3.
  • Failure to receive the proper IA certification may result in removal from this position".

  • Eligible for a Cost-of-Living-Allowance (COLA) which is subject to change without notice.
  • This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to random testing for drug testing. This position is designated as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force(AF) Civilian Drug Testing Program.
  • Illegal drug use by employees in sensitive positions present a clear threat to the mission of the AF, national security, and public safety. It is required that you refrain from the use of illegal drugs and if requested, submit to urinalysis testing.
  • This is a Mission Essential (ME) position performing a Mission Critical Function (MCF) which must continue uninterrupted after the occurrence of an emergency and continued through full resumption of all functions.

Qualifications

Conditions of Employment Continued: This position is designated as a key position IAW AFI 36-507. Duties of this position are essential to the accomplishment of wartime/contingency operations. Incumbents of key positions must be removed from their military recall status if alternative for filling of the position during an emergency are not available. Qualifications: In order to qualify, you must meet the requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Information Technology (IT) Management Series, GS-2210 (Alternate A). https://www.opm.gov/policy-data-oversight/classification-qualifications/general-schedule-qualification-standards/2200/information-technology-it-management-series-2210-alternative-a/ Specialized Experience: Must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below: Attention to Detail, Customer Service, Oral Communication, and Problem Solving AND one year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-12 (or equivalent in other pay systems) which includes knowledge of the principles, methods, and practices for integrating information system components sufficient to plan, coordinate, and administer computer systems and optimize system performance. Knowledge of safety and security regulations, practices, and procedures. Knowledge of DOD budget policies, IT life cycle, management, and contracting and procurement procedures as it relates to technology. FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time--in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-12 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-13 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Knowledge of the principles, methods, and practices for integrating information system components sufficient to plan, coordinate, and administer computer systems and optimize system performance. Knowledge of safety and security regulations, practices, and procedures. Ability to plan, organize, and direct the functions and staff of a small to medium sized organization, and the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to analyze, plan, and adjust work operations of one or more organizational segments to meet program requirements and objectives within available resources. Knowledge of DOD budget policies, IT life cycle, management, and contracting and procurement procedures as it relates to technology. Expert knowledge of related cyber disciplines such as network systems operations, communication lines, intrusion detection systems, firewalls, routers and current reporting procedures (e.g. IT networking, systems administration, C2 infrastructure, and knowledge operations and communications maintenance). Knowledge of Global Command and Control Systems, Theater Battle Management Core Systems, Joint Worldwide Intelligence Communications Systems, operating systems, associated devices and interoperability of systems; to optimize system functionality and performance to ensure data and systems availability and integrity. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
