This position is located in Rocky Mountain National Park in the Facility Management Division. This position is responsible for the repair, maintenance and operation of water treatment facilities, water distribution systems, wastewater collections systems, lift stations, dump stations and other related equipment.
Duties
Utility Systems Repairer/Operators are responsible for the efficient repair, maintenance and operation of water treatment facilities, water distribution systems, wastewater collections systems, lift stations, dump stations and ancillary equipment. Facilities include: 18 water systems, 2 wastewater flumes, 7 lift stations, 30 septic systems, 85 vault toilets, 4 campgrounds with RV dump stations, and 1 industrial waste transfer station.
Applicants must possess and maintain a current Colorado (or other state's equivalent) Water Treatment Operator's Class C License and a Water Distribution Operator Class 1 License. These licenses are required prior to entering on duty.
Applicants must be able to obtain/maintain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class B with Tanker Endorsement, a Colorado Backflow Prevention Tester certification, and a Colorado Wastewater Collections Class 1 License. These licenses are required within 12 months after entering on duty.
Career-Seasonal: This position is designated as Career-Seasonal. Career-Seasonal appointments are permanent positions and include the same benefits as Career appointments, but do not provide work on a year-round basis. In this position you will work from approximately April through October, and you will be in a non-pay status for the remainder of the year unless other work exists that can be assigned to during this period. Though non-pay time may be reduced, you will still be placed in non-pay status for a minimum of 1 pay period per year in accordance with NPS policy.
Housing: Government housing may be available on a temporary or permanent basis, but it is not guaranteed. Housing assignments are made though a bid process.
Qualifications
Applicants must be at least (1)18 years old OR (2) at least 16 years old and: (a) Have graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school; or (b) Have completed a formal vocational training program; or (c) Have received a statement from school authorities agreeing with their preference for employment rather than continuing their education; or (d) Be currently enrolled in a secondary school and either work only during school vacation periods or work part-time during the school year under a formal student employment program.
To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors:
Must demonstrate the ability to do the work of a Utility Systems Repairer-Operator without more than normal supervision. To qualify at for this position, you must demonstrate the following trades: operate, maintain, and monitor, a water treatment system. Inspect, activate, deactivate, maintain, and repair a potable water distribution system. Ensure water meets the requirements of the Safe Drinking Water Act and State Department of Public Health and Environment standards to include testing, adjusting and using Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems. Repair, and maintain all facets of a potable water treatment facility including repair work on plumbing fixtures, service lines, and valves. (SCREEN OUT)
This position requires possession of: a current Colorado Class C Water Treatment Operators License (or equivalent), and a Water Distribution Operator Class 1 License. You MUST provide proof of this licensing in your resume or application packet. (SCREEN OUT).
