The Intimate Partner Violence Assistance Program (IPVAP) Senior Social Worker supports the IPVAP Social Work Program Coordinator whose primary responsibilities are to provide clinical evidence-based services including, assessments and interventions; collaborate on program development; group coordination and facilitation; Veteran, family, Caregiver and staff education on intimate partner violence; community outreach; continuous quality improvement activities; and evaluation/consultation.

The Intimate Partner Violence Assistance Program Senior Social Worker helps develop and implement the Intimate Partner Violence Assistance Program specific to his/her area of assignment and ensures compliance and collaboration with local facility and the VA Central Office Intimate Partner Violence Assistance Program initiatives. Provide administrative support in partnership with or in the absence of the IPVAP Social Work Program Coordinator, including clinical programming and daily operations of the program. Provides real time support in response to referrals Collaboratively develop policies and procedures for program operation and prepare reports and statistics for facility, VISN, and national use, while the IPVAP Social Work Program Coordinator is ultimately responsible for the aforementioned tasks. Support the IPVAP Social Work Program Coordinator with managing the program's budget and various control points assigned to the program within the assigned areas; manage and control the use of data related to these programs regarding day to day functioning and program evaluation in collaboration with the IPVAP Social Work Program Coordinator. In conjunction with the supervisor and IPVAP Social Work Program Coordinator, plans, organizes and directs administrative, operational, Veteran and personnel activities for the service. Conducts Veteran, family, Caregiver and VA employee interventions to facilitate the identification of intimate partner violence, psychiatric illness, emotional distress and social needs as treatment issues. Professional judgment, including the knowledge of normal and abnormal behavior, is an inherent competency applied in daily interactions with clients. Share the responsibility of managing the IPVAP consults with the IPVAP Social Work Program Coordinator, with primary oversight of the IPVAP Strength at Home (SAH) consults. As an Intimate Partner Violence Assistance Program Senior Social Worker, the incumbent stays abreast of current federal and state legislation directed at Veterans, their family members, caregiver and/or VA employees who experience and/or use IPV. The incumbent will maintain a knowledge base of current theory and treatment modalities by reading professional journals, attending conferences, clinic seminars and teleconferences, and materials distributed through VA and private sector. meets the needs of customers while supporting VA missions. Consistently communicates and treats customers (Veterans, their representatives, visitors, and all VA staff) in a courteous, tactful, and respectful manner. Incumbent provides the customer with consistent information according to established policies and procedures. Handles conflict and problems in dealing with the consumer constructively and appropriately. Incumbent protects printed and electronic files containing sensitive data in accordance with the provisions of the Privacy Act of 1974 and other applicable laws, Federal regulations, VA statutes and policy, and VHA policy. Incumbent protects the data from unauthorized release or from loss, alteration, or unauthorized deletion. Incumbent follows applicable regulations and instructions regarding access to computerized files, release of access codes, etc. The employee uses word processing software to execute several office automation functions such as storing and retrieving electronic documents and files; activating printers; inserting and deleting text, formatting letters, reports, and memoranda; and transmitting and receiving e-mail. The employee uses the Veterans Health Information and Technology Architecture (Vista) to access information in the Medical Center Computer System. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Education. Have a master's degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the School of Social Work is fully accredited. A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for the master's degree in social work. Verification of the degree can be made by going to http://www.cswe.org/Accreditation to verify that the social work degree meets the accreditation standards for a masters of social work. Licensure. Persons hired or reassigned to social worker positions in the GS-0185 series in VHA must be licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the master's degree level. Grade Determinations: Social Worker (Senior Social Worker), GS-12 The Senior Social Worker (Intimate Partner Assistance program)has at least two years of experience post advanced practice clinical licensure and should be in a specialized area of social work practice of which, one year must be equivalent to the GS-11 grade level. Senior social workers have experience that demonstrates possession of advanced practice skills and judgement. Senior social workers are experts in their specialized area of practice. Senior social workers may have certification or other post-masters training from a national recognized professional organization or university that includes a defined curriculum/course of study and internship or equivalent supervised professional experience in a specialty. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES: (a) Skill in a range of specialized interventions and treatment modalities used in specialty treatment programs or with special patient populations. This includes individual, group, and/or family counseling or psychotherapy and advanced level psychosocial and/or case management. (b) Ability to incorporate complex multiple causation in differential diagnosis and treatment within approved clinical privileges or scope of practice. (c) Knowledge in developing and implementing methods for measuring effectiveness of social work practice and services in the specialty area, utilizing outcome evaluations to improve treatment services and to design system changes. (d) Ability to provide specialized consultation to colleagues and students on the psychosocial treatment of patients in the service delivery area, as well as role modeling effective social work practice skills.
