This position is part of Plant Operations , Production Department, Binding Division in Washington, DC.

Duties
Serves as a resource person and monitors and coordinates the work of journeyperson bookbinders.
Inspects work in progress on a continual basis and makes adjustments as necessary to ensure quality and to meet required production deadlines.
Provides advice and assistance to bookbinders who are responsible for setting up, adjusting, and operating binding equipment.
Analyzes and troubleshoots problems, including determining the diagnosis and replacement parts.
Identifies and coordinates major repair and/or maintenance problems with Engineering Services. Responsible for coordinating with machinists on major equipment repair projects.
Requirements
- You must be a current Career or Career Conditional GPO employee to apply.
- Selectee must be able to obtain and maintain Non-Sensitive Low Risk clearances.
- Selectee may be required to serve a one year probationary period.
- This position is subject to successful completion of preemployment requirements.
- PHYSICAL EFFORT-Duties require prolonged standing, walking, stooping, bending, reaching above shoulder, and climbing, moderate hand, wrist and arm movements, moderate lifting of up to 80lbs, must have good eye-hand coordination and proficient vision.
- WORKING CONDITIONS- Duties are performed in well-lit, heated and ventilated area, and there is exposure to low frequency noise generated by bindery equipment. Work is performed indoors with no exposure to excessive heat or cold .
Qualifications
"To qualify for the position, you must meet the following requirements: Applicants must have experience and/or training of sufficient scope and quality to independently perform the duties typically required of a Head Operator.
Applicants must meet the following SCREENOUT, Element #1 Ability to do the work of a Head Operator without more than normal supervision to be considered for this position. Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the online questionnaire. If your knowledge and ability in the SCREEN OUT ELEMENT below is not sufficient, you will receive no further consideration. The screen-out element for this position is:

GPO requires in addition to the SCREENOUT question: Applicant must possess completion of Federal Merit Promotion Plan, GPO Directive 615.2C, Appendix B which involves either completion of a formal, recognized apprenticeship or GPO journeyperson training program, or possess substantially equivalent practical experience in the Bookbinder trade, OR completed at least 1 year of journeyperson experience subsequent to completion of the above apprenticeship or training, and served a minimum of 1 year in a Career or Career-conditional appointment at GPO."
