This position is under the Health Administration Service at the Truman VA Medical Center in Columbia, Mo, which is a Complexity Level 1c facility. The Medical Administration Assistant (Administrative Officer of the Day (AOD) is the central point of contact after normal duty hours, and is responsible for all medical, legal and administrative functions of the health care facility. You may qualify for Recruitment or Relocation incentive in accordance with agency policy.
Duties
DUTIES: Medical Administration Assistant (Administrative Officer of the Day (AOD) The Administrative Officer of the Day (AOD) is the central point of contact after normal duty hours, and is responsible for all medical, legal and administrative functions of the health care facility. Coordinates all contacts received by the health care facility during irregular hours. Serves as the authoritative person during irregular hours on all issues involving tentative enrollment and eligibility decisions. Provides administrative guidance and advice to the Medical Officer of the Day (MOD), the Nursing Officer of the Day (NOD), and other clinical staff concerning administrative matters. Ensures the proper handling of patients' funds and personal effects for admissions and dispositions during his/her tour of duty. Assumes a key role in the health care facility emergency disaster plan, acting as the Incident Commander during other than normal duty hours. Works as a team with the MOD, NOD, and other officials to oversee the management of the health care facility during other than normal duty hours. Performs administrative functions necessary to release the remains of a deceased patient to the designated funeral home for proper burial. Assists the medical staff in obtaining permissions for post mortem examination, notifying Coroner's office in cases of unusual deaths. Assists the clinical staff in recording patient consents when necessary. Acts as a staff assistant in the Health Administration Service office, performing supportive activities for administrative matters (i.e. open dispositions, IVM uploads, pre-registrations, travel reimbursement, ambulance authorizations, clinic changes for provider call-ins, checking employees in/out on off tours, requests for information, etc.).
Work Schedule: Rotating shifts, nights and weekends.

Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-7 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-6. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
Specialized Experience: To qualify for the GS 7 position you must possess at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade (GS 6). Examples of specialized experience at the GS 6 level include: experience as a Health Benefits Assistant, Advanced Medical Support Assistant, or similar position which deals with basic eligibility for care, registration and admission to the Medical Center for VA care. Work should have included working with VistA through the Graphic User Interface and appointment management. In addition to the above specialized experience, the GS 7 position requires specialized experience in working with fee basis, travel pay, and details/burial benefits. Experience must have prepared the applicant to perform the duties of this position independently with minimum orientation. The experience may have been obtained in private industry, local government, as a volunteer, etc., but must be directly related to the duties of this vacancy.

Physical Requirements: The work requires sitting and walking and occasionally the requirements to lift such objects as suitcases, clothing or medical charts.
