Duties
You will consult technical documents and manuals (e.g., manufacturer's manuals, technical publications) to verify heavy mobile equipment
maintenance and repairs are completed correctly.
You will determine tools and equipment to use to inspect or repair heavy mobile equipment and vehicles.
You will repair major systems (e.g., diesel engines, turbo charged engines, transmissions, drivelines and hydraulic utility systems, final drives,
gear boxes) for equipment functionality.
You will confirm that equipment component's measurements are precise and fit correctly with connecting parts.
You will diagnose mechanical failures and finalize reconditioning and testing procedures for heavy mobile equipment.

Qualifications
This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. The Screen-out Element for this position is: Ability to perform the duties of a Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanic without more than normal supervision as demonstrated by the following: 1) Performs the full range of repair, rebuild, overhaul and modification of the largest and more complex heavy mobile equipment, having integrated/interconnected engine systems; for example, armored fighting vehicles (AFVs), locomotive engines, cranes (mobile cranes, portal cranes, locomotive cranes, floating cranes ,and similar), weight and material handling equipment, aerial work platforms, larger construction trucks with diesel engines, large diesel electric generators, and similarly complex heavy mobile equipment used for construction, earth moving, ship loading, and comparable major industrial or special applications; 2) Repairs, overhauls or rebuilds large, (e.g., 12-cylinder, 1,000 H.P) gasoline or diesel engines requiring a great degree of skill in making difficult and unusually precise repairing, fitting and adjusting of moving parts, engines with pistons which directly power multiple hydraulic and interconnected engine system; 3) Manufactures by machining, honing, lapping difficult, precise fittings and adjustments of moving parts, altering parts to fit and mesh in systems for which the parts were not designed; and 4) Modifies and fabricates necessary parts to complete the necessary repair, rebuild or overhaul of equipment, vehicles and engines.
