You will serve as an Interdisciplinary Engineer/Scientist in the Weapons & Energetics Department of NAVAIRWARCENWPNDIV CHINA LAKE.

Duties

You will coordinate and work across Integrated Fires Labs (IFL) teams in support of Verification and Validation?of various software products, infrastructure, and models used in Platform, Weapon, Network and Sensor (PWNS) predictions. You will update and maintain existing Systems of Systems (SoS) Verification and Validation plans, set requirements for existing products, and create and/or tailor VandV plans and requirements for various new models and other products. You will oversee and manage other systems/test engineers in accomplishing project goals and other duties determined by project leadership. You will create detailed test descriptions, including scoring metrics, for verifying that our software meets requirements. You will work with the development teams to improve development processes and testing, including metrics of success.

  • This position is covered under the Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act (DAWIA). Certification in the Acquisition Functional Area and category assigned to the position is required within established category timeframes.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time

Qualifications

In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-09-11) or pay band (DP-03) in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector in order to perform the duties of an Interdisciplinary Engineer/Scientist. Specialized experiences must include some or all of the following: (1) Demonstrating experience with modeling and simulation; (2) Exhibiting experience with verification and validation; (3) Exhibiting experience in providing leadership in resolving major technical and/or administrative problems; (4) Demonstrating experience with oral and written communication. 0801 Series:
Successful completion of a degree in Engineering. To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor's degree in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by ABET; or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics.
OR
A combination of education and experience -- college-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying engineering, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering.

1310 Series:
Successful completion of a degree in Physics.
OR
Successful completion of a related degree that included at least 24 semester hours in physics.
OR
A combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in physics totaling at least 24 semester hours, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

1320 Series:
Successful completion of a degree in physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering that included 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by course work in mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics.
OR
A combination of education and experience -- course work equivalent to a major as shown in A above, including at least 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

Successful completion of a degree in Mathematics.
OR
Successful completion of a degree equivalent of a major that included at least 24 semester hours in mathematics.
OR
A combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in mathematics (including at least 24 semester hours in mathematics), as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education

1550 Series:
Successful completion of a degree in Mathematics.
OR
Successful completion of a degree equivalent of a major that included at least 24 semester hours in mathematics.
OR
A combination of experience and education as described above that equates to one year of experience.
