This position is responsible for the delivery of Whole Health Coaching and skill development of the local Whole Health Coach program at the VA Medical Center in Phoenix, AZ.

The incumbent serves as a Social Science Program Coordinator - Employee Whole Health Coordinator and will have full responsibility for administering all aspects of the local initiative to support the health and well-being of employees. This involves assembling and coordinating the activities of a diverse planning team of health professionals and representatives from various services who will assist the coordinator in planning and implementing educational opportunities, well-being activities, and programs for employees. The Employee Whole Health Coordinator has the ultimate responsibility for planning and implementation of the local employee well-being program based on national guidance provided by the national Employee Whole Health program office. The expectation is that the Employee Whole Health Coordinator will address overall well-being issues for employees throughout the medical center and outlying areas including but not limited to nutrition, mental, emotional, social, physical, and environmental well-being based on Whole Health (WH) principles and the WH system of care.
Duties include, but may not be limited to the following:
- Assembling a diverse planning team of interdisciplinary health professionals and representatives from various services within the medical center including labor partners.
- Working with the committees to develop a charter, goals, and strategic plans for the Employee Whole Health program, and ensures the plans are updated annually.
- Conducting needs assessment(s) of employees to determine program needs and interests. Developing core program components based on assessment results.
- Developing and delivering classes, seminars, workshops, etc. on various Employee Whole Health topics including but not limited to nutrition, physical activity, and mental health topics or works to identify and collaborates with relevant subject matter experts.
- Developing training materials for staff educational needs.
- Implementing use of available individual health assessments to determine employee well-being strengths and opportunities (i.e., Personal Health Inventory (PHI), Healthy Living Assessment (HLA)), and tracks employee improvement and goal attainment as appropriate.
- Modeling healthy behavior and provides support and encouragement to employees as it relates to behavior change.
- Promoting the Employee Whole Health program to all employees on all shifts throughout the medical center and Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs).
- Writing proposals for annual funding opportunities as made available by the national Employee Whole Health program office.
- Maintaining and updating local policies and procedures related to Employee Whole Health.
- Managing program budget and is the fund control point official for the Employee Whole Health program.
- Responsible for the purchase of a variety of products, materials, and goods used in the promotion and administration of Employee Whole Health activities.
- Promoting the model of whole health for Employees, including increasing opportunities to engage in self-care activities
- Educates leaders in well-being culture and behaviors which can support a culture of well-being
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm (subject to change).

Qualifications
BASIC REQUIREMENT: You MUST meet the Basic Requirements and the Minimum Qualifications to qualify for this Social Science Program Coordinator position.
BASIC EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT: Four (4) years of appropriate experience in a position that demonstrates I have the acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. NOTE: Your experience must be fully documented in your resume and must include job title; duties; month & year start/end dates AND hours worked per week. ~OR~
BASIC EDUCATION REQUIREMENT: Successfully completed a full four (4) year course of study at an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's degree or higher, with a major study in behavioral science, social science, or related disciplines appropriate to this position. The number of semester hours required to constitute a major field of study is the amount specified by the college or university attended. If this number cannot be obtained, 24 semester hours will be considered as equivalent to a major field of study. COMBINATION OF BASIC EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: A combination of education and experience that included courses equivalent to a major in behavioral or social science or a subject-matter field appropriate to this position, plus appropriate experience that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of a 4-year course of study described above. The quality of the combination of education and experience must be sufficient to demonstrate that you possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform work in this occupation. In addition to meeting the above requirements, you must also meet one of the following minimum requirements for the grade level that you are applying.
To qualify for this position at the GS-9 level, you must meet one of the following:
Specialized Experience: You must have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-7) in the Federal Service, that is directly related to the work of the position and has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties as a Social Science Program Coordinator. Qualifying specialized experience includes: reviewing supporting material to determine compliance with regulations and policy requirements; assists in planning and implementing program(s) within a medical center setting; using creativity to engage employees and community partners in a newly developed program; developing training materials for staff educational needs; and experience using a wide range of qualitative and quantitative methods for the assessment and improvement of program effectiveness. ~OR~
Education: Successfully completed two (2) years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree in a related field of the position to be filled. Education at the graduate level must have been obtained in an accredited college or university and must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position. Combination: Combinations of successfully completed graduate level education (beyond the first year) and specialized experience as described above, to meet the total experience requirements. The education portion must include graduate courses that demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do to the work of this position. Physical Requirements: Regular and recurring work is mostly sedentary and performed while sitting at a desk, although the position requires the ability to move from one geographic location of the facility to another. Some physical effort such as standing, walking, bending, or prolonged sitting may be required. The work places no special physical demands on the employee. Work is performed in an office setting with occasional visits to areas within the service as well as throughout the Medical Center. Work area is adequately lighted, heated and air conditioned. The normal risks and discomforts typical of an office and clerical work area are included. There are no unusual risks or safety hazards associated with this position.
