The Eastern Colorado Health Care System VA Hospital is located in Aurora, Colorado and is currently recruiting for one GS 10 Supervisory Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist with a Mammography certification.

Duties

Supervisory Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist-Mammography duties include, but aren't limited to the following: Functions as an independent Advanced DRT, M, when completing assigned tasks and provides Veterans w/ outstanding health care Provides full oversight & supervision in mammography section at ECHCS medical center & its affiliated VA Clinic in Colorado Springs, to facilitate breast imaging studies & procedures for all modalities ensuring appropriate patient care, administrative, supervisory & regulatory requirements are met Possesses/applies comprehensive knowledge of mammography program requirements-overall radiology department operations-effectively performs program SWOT analyses Monitors/evaluates subordinates' performance, formulates plans, delegates authority & tracks assigned tasks Performs variety HR actions- Writes performance plans, reviews, discusses & approves leave Initiates administrative actions: changes in personnel status, hiring, promotions, awards, discipline, etc Processes required documents & timekeeping entries in VATAS Pursues new developments/knowledge in diagnostic imaging, especially breast imaging & implements/updates processes as needed to ensure breast imaging program remains in compliance w/ federal, state & VA laws, policies, procedures, regulations & processes Collects, enters, tracks & manipulates health informatics/data required for management analysis to obtain data for ad hoc reports for various audiences; ensures all patient service data points are completed & collected to meet metric measurements including pending, incomplete, past scheduled/hold orders, Community Care consults & procedure case counts according to National Radiology Program Office, NRPO orders management guidance Monitors/ensures Community Care consults images are uploaded for imaging studies following NRPO guidance Organizes/manages comprehensive Quality Assurance/Quality Control, QA/QC program w/in breast imaging section-represents department at annual FDA/MQSA inspections Works closely w/ technologists, radiologists, clinicians & clerical staff to ensure optimum QC, efficient coordination of activities, high quality diagnostic/therapeutic exam results & patient satisfaction Ensures all personal certifications/qualifications are continuously monitored/not expired as required by the accrediting bodies, including personnel qualifications, continuing experience & educational experience required by MQSA for all breast imaging physicians, technologists & medical physicists Tracks & coordinates annual/semiannual equipment inspections & preventative maintenance w/ biomedical engineering & reviews/acts upon their recommendations Ensures an adequate quantity of supplies to meet workload demands through a systemized process of ordering, receipt & inventory control Verifies staff stock necessary supplies/pays special attention to critical items/expiration dates Represents Service & conducts new products evaluation & makes recommendations for products that reduce cost &/or increase quality Researches, prepares & submits appropriate documentation to hospital Clinical Product Review Committee, CPRC for recommendation/approval Serves as Imaging liaison w/ Supply Chain Management, SCM Assists w/ determining costs for exams & projecting costs for budgetary purposes Facilitates, delegates & expedites reports processing such as preliminary, monthly/quarterly totals, delinquent/incomplete reports to complete status Ensures Service operations comply w/ patient care/safety standards set forth by MQSA, Joint Commission, OIG, VACO, ACR, NHPP & other regulatory bodies, such as: radiation dose monitoring, contrast administration safeguards, patient handling-patient/verification Assesses, plans, implements, coordinates, monitors & evaluates patient care activities for Imaging Service Coordinates Veterans breast care w/in Imaging Service, in mammography, ultrasound, MRI & Nuclear Medicine sections & in collaboration w/ ECHCS providers & specialty clinics as needed Participates in Imaging Service Quality Improvement Committee meetings/processes Addresses all patient concerns Demonstrates VA I-Care values to internal/external customers Protects data from unauthorized release, loss, alteration, or unauthorized deletion. Follows applicable regulations & instructions regarding access to computerized files, release of access codes, etc. Adheres to Information Security policy outlined in VA Directive & handbook 6500. Accepts responsibility for transactions under his/her/their access verify codes & protects equipment, hardware & software Spends 50% time administratively, 50% of time as an advanced DRT (M), or performing other duties as directed Work Schedule: 7am-3:30pm Telework: Not available Virtual: This is not a virtual position. Qualifications

Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Basic Requirements: U.S. Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. English Language Proficiency. Must be proficient in spoken and written English Education or Training. Completion of a full-time training course of at least 24 months in duration, or the equivalent, in a post-high school diagnostic radiologic technology program, evidenced by a certificate or an associate degree, accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology, JRCERT or from other accrediting agencies as recognized by the Department of Education, DOE. NOTE: Assignment to the clinical program director requires meeting JRCERT minimum educational standards as noted in the assignment description. Certification. All applicants must be certified in general radiologic technology by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology, Radiography (ARRT) (R). Advanced ARRT certification is required for assignments that include computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), [or Mammography (M) duties performed independently, as applicable]. Advanced certification indicates that the incumbent can operate independently and has demonstrated specific clinical competency in the appropriate specialty and taken and passed the designated examination. In modalities that require advanced certification, to support their continued development, technologists who do not possess an advanced certification may be provided on the job training with oversight from a certified radiologic technologist. May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria. Exception for Non-Certified, Entry Level Candidates. Non-certified DRTs who otherwise meet the eligibility requirements for ARRT (R) certification may be given a temporary appointment as a graduate DRT under the authority of 38 U.S.C. ? 7405(c)(2)(B). The appointing official may waive the requirement of certification for a period not to exceed two years for a DRT that provides care under the supervision of a certified DRT at or above the full performance level. This exception only applies at the GS-5 entry level technician. For grade levels above the entry level, the candidate must be certified. Temporary appointments of non-certified DRTs may not be extended beyond two years or converted to a new temporary appointment. Credentialing Standards. Public Law 97-35, the Consumer-Patient Radiation Health and Safety Act of 1981, requires that persons who administer radiologic procedures meet the credentialing standards in 42 CFR Part 75, Standards for the Accreditation of Educational Programs and the Credentialing of Radiographic Personnel. Essentially, they must have successfully completed an educational program that meets or exceeds the standards described in that regulation and is accredited by an organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and be certified as radiographers in their field. Loss of Credential. An employee in this occupation who fails to obtain certification within two years, or who fails to maintain the required certification must be removed from the occupation, which may also result in termination of employment. Mammography (M). The complex nature of breast disease involves multiple imaging modalities. This specialty involves the specific knowledge and abilities to perform complex imaging of the breast. Mammographers must be able to employ specialized mammographic image techniques such as magnification views and implant views of the breast. The mammographer is required to be completely familiar with, and adhere to, all U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) guidelines regulating the practice of mammography, radiation safety, and quality assurance requirements. Mammographers are subject to the Mammography Quality Standards Act of 1992 (MQSA) and regulated by the FDA. DRT assignments that include performance of independent duties in this subspecialty require advanced ARRT (M) certification. . Grade Determination: GS-10 Supervisory Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist Experience. At least one year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level directly related to the position being filled that demonstrates skills in a specialty area or in administration demonstrating progressively more professional competency and judgment. In addition to the GS-10 experience requirements listed above, candidates must also demonstrate all the following technical KSAs and demonstrate the potential to acquire the assignment-specific KSAs designated by an asterisk (*): 1) *Ability to analyze organizational, technical, and administrative problems and to develop and implement solutions that result in efficient section operation. 2) Ability to evaluate quality management procedures and processes. 3) *Ability to analyze and use data effectively to manage workload, quality, performance, and productivity. 4) *Skill in developing new policies and guidelines as needed. 5) Skill in problem solving and conflict resolution. Preferred Experience: Prefer at least 1 year supervisory experience as DRT in breast imaging and breast patient navigator experience References: VA Handbook 5005/119 PART II APPENDIX G25. The full performance level of this vacancy is a GS-10. The actual grade at which an applicant may be selected for this vacancy is a GS-10. Physical Requirements: Bending/carrying moderately heavy articles Long periods sitting, standing, walking, computer work requiring keyboard/mouse operation Ability for rapid simultaneous mental/muscular coordination Assisting patients to achieve proper positioning which may require reaching/working in awkward positions Reaching above shoulder, using of fingers, good dexterity of both hands required Far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20, ability to distinguish basic colors, hearing, correctable w/ aid permitted, speed in working & emotional stability.
