This position will support the Federal Government's response efforts to COVID-19.
This position is located at the Kayenta Service Unit, Division of Administration Services, Housekeeping Branch, Kayenta, AZ. The Kayenta Service Unit consists of approximately over four hundred employees and serves an Indian population of approximately 5,500 recipients.
Duties
NOTE: Competition for Housekeeping Aid is restricted by law to persons entitled to Veteran's Preference as long as such applicants are available for appointment. FOR APPLICANTS APPLYING UNDER THE PROVISION OF THE EXCEPTED SERVICE EXAMINING PLAN, CONSIDERATION FOR THIS POSITION IS LIMITED TO APPLICANTS ENTITLED TO VETERANS PREFERENCE. IF THERE ARE LESS THAN THREE VETERANS AVAILABLE, NON-PREFERENCE ELIGIBLES MAY BE CONSIDERED.
Cleaning and disinfecting the floors, sinks, commodes, door and plumbing fixtures, mirrors and spot wiping the walls.
Performs isolation cleaning using strict aseptic procedures to ensure that all recommended guidelines are met.
Vacuums, dusts and wet mops floors, corridors, offices, utility rooms, with a germicidal mopping solution.
Scrubs, cleans and disinfect rooms, the linen rooms, offices, lounges, bathrooms and other areas, daily, using a germicidal solution for disinfecting.
Scrubs and cleans urinal, washstands, soap and paper towel dispensers with a scouring paste/powder/cream and disinfects with a germicidal treated cloth or sponge.
Vacuums and cleans carpeting throughout the hospital, cleans ventilation louvers, washes walls, windows and glass partitions.
Replenishes toilet tissue, paper towels and soap dispensers as needed.
Disinfects wastebaskets and trash containers daily and reline containers every time trash is removed.
Collects soiled linen from wards, rooms and transports to proper linen disposal site.
Cleans and disinfects the Offices daily, Monday through Fridays, during normal working hours.
Knowledge of harmful bacteria, of germicidal compound used to combat these microorganisms.
Must follow prescribed safety procedures to avoid creation of hazard to patients, visitors and hospital personnel.
Use cleaning equipment such as industrial scrubbers, vacuum cleaners, manual/powered common cleaning tools.
Perform general maintenance of the housekeeping cart, such as, cleaning cart and keeping the cart stocked with supplies.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

There is no specific length of training or experience required: However, applicants will be rated on the basis of their responses to the Occupation Questionnaire that you possess the competencies to perform the duties that position without normal supervision, and the information contained in their resume.
PHYSICAL EFFORT: Moderate physical effort is required continuously in performance of manual cleaning tasks. Walking standing for long periods, required bending, pulling, lifting, pushing, and climbing. There are occasionally short periods of more physical effort when moving furniture and lifting of items over twenty-five (25) pounds, occasionally objects weighing over fifty (50) pounds.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Will be working inside with adequate lighting, ventilation and occasionally outside when washing of windows. Will be exposed to some mechanical hazard, some moving objects, wet floors, to skin irritation form strong cleaning solution used in disinfections, in stripping of floors, etc., and danger of falling off step ladders, scaffolds, in cleaning high areas, hanging of drapes and curtains, and with risks of exposure to contagious disease, radiation or infection.

Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
