This position is located at Kayenta Health Center, Kayenta, Arizona. Serves as Supervisor for Housekeeping Section. Incumbent is responsible for providing a clean Health Care Facility environment, supervises employees and purchases supplies and equipment. Conducts long and short term planning and provides in-service training.
Duties
Planning: makes assignment, explains work requirements, sets deadlines and establishes sequence of workflow. Determines resources necessary, material, number of subordinates and any special skills necessary. Directly supervises staff involved in cleaning entire clinic area and interdepartmental housekeeping functions to provide a clean sanity environment for the entire clinic and/or areas assigned. Makes inspections of clinics areas to ascertain that proper standards of cleaning techniques have been observed and applied by Housekeeping staff. Technical assistance is available from the Supervisors, Safety Officer and Infection Control Officer on aseptic techniques to be followed.
Work Direction: Reassigns housekeeping aids to other area and inspects linen, inventories, maintain adequate supply of cleaning materials. Monitors records of weighs and costs for executing, issues fitting and marking all uniforms for employees as required by supervisor.
Administration: Prepares daily, monthly work schedules, yearly tentative leave schedules and prepares Performance Appraisals System for all subordinate Housekeeping personnel. Participates with and attends Performance Improvement meetings to implement Safety Infection control practices; ensures, initiates and maintains preventive measures against disease or health and safety hazard in order to maintain a clean, safe environment for all patients, staff, and visitors. Ensures compliances with IHS,NAIHS and service unit polices, procedures and accrediting agencies.
Technical: Trains housekeeping personnel, including new employees, in routine cleaning procedures, proper handling and disposal of soiled contaminated linen. Participates with and attends trainings. Incumbent is a working supervisor that performs essentially the same duties of subordinates in areas where there is a shortage. Informs and instructs subordinate staff on new developments in clinical housekeeping techniques and procedures.
Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
In addition to the above qualifications will also be determined by comparing your application to the responses on the Assessment Questionnaire against the guidelines found in the Job Qualification System for Trades and Labor Occupations, WS-3566 Series. SUPERVISORY OR MANAGERIAL COMPETENCIES: Candidates should posses proficiency or the potential to develop proficiency in these competencies prior to entry into a supervisory position.
Ability to provide verbal or written reports on work progress.
Ability to operate personal protective equipment, familiar with Safety Data Sheet and follows polices and procedures on Safety and Infection Control Standards when cleaning up infections spills.
Ability to follow proper guideline in the use of hospital grade cleaning chemical and cleaning techniques related to a health care environment.
Ability to conduct periodic inventories to ensure sufficient quantities of custodial cleaning supplies are maintained.
Physical Effort: Moderately physical effort is required to continuously perform manual cleaning tasks. Position requires walking, standing for long periods, bending, pulling, pushing, lifting, reaching, and climbing. There are occasional short periods of more physical effort when moving furniture, cabinets, and lifting items over 50 pounds.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
