This position is located with Department of Justice, Office of the Deputy Attorney General (ODAG).
The Office of the Deputy Attorney General advises and assists the Attorney General in formulating and implementing Departmental policies and program and in providing overall supervision and direction to all Bureaus, Divisions, and organizational components of the Department.

Prepares, reviews, and edits all correspondence, reports, and/or written analyses for compliance with organization standards, spelling, grammar, and format.
Assist senior staff in the composition and preparation of correspondence to various customers, internal and external to DOJ.
Analyze or resolve complex organizational or program-related problems or issues.
Review information, reconciles conflicting data, or devises new or modified methods to analyze findings to ensure that customers are provided appropriate answers to their inquiries.
Review existing policies and procedures to promote compliance with component and agency requirements as well as administrative laws, rules, orders, and regulations.
Coordinates the development of replies in response to customers inquiries and requests.
Respond in verbal or written format to request for information requiring coordination with other departments offices and/or non-department and/or non-Government individuals.
Determine pertinent issues or collects relevant information from a variety of sources and conduct a variety of research in order to draft memoranda for and/or on behalf of the ODAG staff.
Act as liaison for management officials and senior staff of the organization in communication with officials of the Department.
Requirements
- You must be a United States Citizen or National.
- You must successfully pass a security/background investigation and a drug screening.
- You must be a current Federal employee within the Department of Justice on a Competitive Service appointment.
- You must meet all applicable time-in-grade requirements by the closing of this announcement.

Qualifications
To qualify for the position of Staff Assistant, (GS-0301-11/12), you must meet the basic qualification requirements listed below AND possess the required specialized experience specific to this series and grade.
If you are a current Department of Justice employee on a permanent appointment in the competitive service, you will need to demonstrate 1-year (52-weeks) at the next lower grade level, to meet the time-in-grade requirements for this occupational series and grade.

To qualify for the GS-11 level, you must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service performing the following duties: 1) Preparing written correspondence and reports for an organization; 2) Editing and reviewing correspondence and reports for compliance with organizational standards, spelling, grammar, and format; and 3) Experience conducting records management functions, such as standard handling and retention procedures; OR
B. Have a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree; or three full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree; or LL.M., if related; OR
C. Have some specialized experience as described in A, but less than one year; and have more than two years but less than three years of education as described in B. (To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of graduate education beyond the second year by 36. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify).
To qualify for the GS-12 level, you must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service performing the following duties:1) Researching and applying policies and procedures related to administrative operations; 2) Reviewing correspondence for technical accuracy and content; and 3) Preparing written responses to inquiries regarding administrative and program matters.
