DUTY LOCATION: Theater Aviation Sustainment Maintenance Group (TASMG), Groton, CT
AREA(S) OF CONSIDERATION:
Area 1: All currently employed full-time permanent and indefinite personnel of the Connecticut Army National Guard.
Area 2: All currently employed full-time temporary technician personnel and all current traditional members of the Connecticut Army National Guard.
Duties
Position to be filled upon the vacancy of the incumbent.
JOB SUMMARY: The primary purpose is to assure quality maintenance and repair of aircraft systems consisting of avionics, electrical, electronic and instrument components.
NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED. This is an excepted position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the Connecticut Army National Guard.
The major duties include, but are not limited to:
Inspects aircraft systems consisting of avionics, electrical, electronic and instrument systems and components.
Performs initial, in-process and final inspections on aircraft systems and components, as necessary, to assure a continuing quality of workmanship meeting technical specifications established by technical manuals.
Reviews new and interprets existing technical publications applicable to inspection, modification, and repair of aircraft systems.
When designated on NGB Flying Status orders, may participate in aerial flights which are defined by applicable Army publications as Maintenance Test Flights.
Performs such travel as may be required in accomplishment or assigned duties and the organizational mission.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is usually performed inside well lighted, heated and ventilated area. Work is frequently performed in aircraft in cramped, poorly lighted area, under conditions of heat and cold, and occasionally outside in inclement weather. Subject to injuries such as electrical shock, abrasions, cuts, bruises, and burns caused by electrical or RF energy or soldering irons. Also subject to high frequency, loud or piercing noise, where hearing loss may occur without proper protection.
PHYSICAL EFFORT: Work assignments require light to moderate physical effort. Employees frequently lift, carry or otherwise handle items weighing up to 40 pounds. Occasionally they handle items greater than 50 pounds. Assistance is usually available with heavy items. Frequent standing, walking, bending, crouching, reaching and stooping is required.
Requirements
- National Guard Membership is required.
- Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
- Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
- Must meet Compatible Military Assignment within one year from placement.
- Wear of the military uniform is mandatory.
- Direct Deposit is mandatory.
- Must be able to obtain a maintain a secret security clearance.
Qualifications
GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience or training which demonstrates the applicants knowledge of electrical or electronic theory, knowledge of common testing procedures, skill in the use of hand tools of the electronics trade, and skill in reading schematics.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Your resume and any other supporting documentation you wish to provide must clearly substantiate you currently possess 18 months of specialized experience in the following:
Experience or training in utilizing principles, basic functions and application of theory of electronic systems or equipment.
Experience in diagnosing problems and determining needed repairs for malfunctions in electronic equipment or systems.
Experience in making mechanical repairs that required the use of precision measuring and calibrating equipment.
Experience in using complex test equipment such as deviation meters, complex special test panels, etc.
Experience which demonstrates the ability to interpret technical manuals, specifications, and publications.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of electronic testing, repair, and inspection procedures.
Ability to operate complex instruments and testing devices used in the electronics trade.
Ability to follow complex schematics and trace malfunctions to their source.
Ability to apply a wide variety of inspection techniques to examine electronic components, assemblies, and systems.
COMPATIBLE MILITARY ASSIGNMENT: All applications will be considered regardless of Branch/AOC/FA/MOS. Incumbent will be required to be assigned to compatible military position within 1 year of selection. The selected individual may be required to attend formal technician school training.

UNIT OF ASSIGNMENT: Any unit within the state
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: This position is covered by the medical monitoring program. Individual selected must undergo a pre-employment physical examination prior to appointment. This position requires a security clearance (secret) which the applicant must possess or be able to obtain a clearance within one year of appointment.
