DUTY LOCATION: Theater Aviation Sustainment Maintenance Group (TASMG), Groton, CT
AREA(S) OF CONSIDERATION:
Area 1: All currently employed full-time permanent and indefinite personnel of the Connecticut Army National Guard.
Area 2: All currently employed full-time temporary technician personnel and all current traditional members of the Connecticut Army National Guard.
Duties
This position is located within TASMG Projects and may be extended or terminated at the discretion of the TASMG Commander.
JOB SUMMARY: The primary purpose of this position is to perform repair, maintenance, modification, overhaul, and installation of complex electronic systems and/or a portion of a complete electronic integrated system involving work on a number of subsystems but not requiring the integration of all operable subsystems into a functional integrated system.
NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED. This is an excepted position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the Connecticut Army National Guard.
The major duties include, but are not limited to:
Troubleshoots, inspects, installs, maintains, overhauls, repairs, and modifies complete operational systems consisting of numerous complex integral components.
Completes operational checks, inspections, tests and troubleshooting of line replaceable unit (LRU).
Completes bench check, testing, repair, inspection, modification, programming, reprogramming, mating, adjusting, alignment, and analyzing of LRUs and shop replaceable units.
Conducts debriefing of aircrews to determine the nature of system malfunctions then documents all maintenance performed and records information related to the system, LRU's, or shop repairable units on both aircraft and historical records.
Recommends methods to improve equipment performance, technical data, and maintenance procedures by reporting hardware and software malfunctions, initiates materiel deficiency reports both on equipment and in technical data and assists in design changes as necessary.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed inside in well-lighted, heated and ventilated areas or on the aircraft in restricted places, where conditions of heat or cold may occur. Occasionally works outside in inclement weather. Subject to injuries such as electrical shock, cuts and bruises, as well as burns caused by electrical or radio frequency energy, or by soldering irons. Works in high noise environment.
PHYSICAL EFFORT: Physical effort involves lifting components and equipment, also working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Items lifted generally weigh up to 40 pounds. Assistance is usually available with heavier items.
Requirements
- National Guard Membership is required.
- Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
- Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
- Must meet Compatible Military Assignment within one year from placement.
- Wear of the military uniform is mandatory.
- Direct Deposit is mandatory.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance.
Qualifications
GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience, or training which demonstrates the applicants knowledge of electrical or electronic theory, knowledge of common testing procedures, skill in the use of hand tools of the electronics trade, and skill in reading schematics.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Your resume and any other supporting documentation you wish to provide must clearly substantiate you currently possess 18 months of specialized experience in the following:
Experience, or training in utilizing principles, basic functions and application of theory of electronic systems or equipment.
Experience in diagnosing problems and determining needed repairs for malfunctions in electronic equipment or systems.
Experience in making mechanical repairs that required the use of precision measuring and calibrating equipment.
Experience in using complex test equipment such as deviation meters, complex special test panels, etc.
Experience which demonstrates the ability to interpret technical manuals, specifications, and publications.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of operating electronic principles such as micro-miniaturized digital and solid state integrated circuits, transistors, diodes, antennas, signal transmission, oscillation, and amplification.
Knowledge of operating electronic principles such as circuit elements, digital logic, microprocessors, core memory, digital data transmission, infrared, laser, antennas, signal behavior, amplification, and display.
Knowledge of electromechanical servo systems, hydraulics, and mechanical and electrical systems.
COMPATIBLE MILITARY ASSIGNMENT: All applications will be considered regardless of Branch/AOC/FA/MOS. Incumbent will be required to be assigned to compatible military position within 1 year of selection. The selected individual may be required to attend formal technician school training.
MILITARY GRADE (Prior to Appointment): Enlisted: E-3 through E-6
UNIT OF ASSIGNMENT: Any aviation unit within the state
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: This position is covered by the medical monitoring program. Individual selected must undergo a preemployment physical examination prior to appointment. This position requires a security clearance (secret) which the applicant must possess or be able to obtain a clearance within one year of appointment.
