The Physician Assistant (PA) provides comprehensive and quality care to patients in the FHCC by remaining fully accountable for adhering to established policies, standards of care and standards of practice, and demonstrating leadership and accomplishments when providing patient care and developing and implementing programs which will improve the delivery of care relating to Primary Care.

Duties

This is an open and continuous announcement, applicants will be reviewed and sent to the hiring officials every two weeks if eligible and qualified. Major Duties and Responsibilities:1. Gathers a comprehensive database and performs initial and ongoing assessment of assigned patients' medical, physical, and psychosocial status: Conducts and documents histories and physicals. Orders and evaluates diagnostic tests (e.g., labs, x-rays, EKGs, consults, and similar studies) Develops treatment plans in accordance with the scope of practice, and collaborates with the attending physician and health care team, when needed. Contributes to the Care Plan for the Minimum Data Set (MDS). Performs Abnormal Involuntary Movement Scale (AIMS) evaluations Records progress notes, and writes discharge notes and summaries. Generates appropriate referrals to other health care professionals and community agencies according to established procedures. Attends Interdisciplinary Treatment Team meetings. Triages, establishes working diagnoses, administers treatment, ensures case management and provides subsequent evaluations per accepted standard of medical practice for various disciplines. 2. Discriminates between normal/abnormal findings and formulates a treatment plan accordingly. 3. Initiates and adjusts selected medications with formulary approval for inpatients. 4. Documents in the medical record all procedures performed for which the PA is responsible. Institutes and adjusts plans of care, utilizing PA skills. 5. Provides appropriate responses to life-threatening emergency situations when no physicians are immediately available. 6. Documents clinical findings and progress notes in the medical record. 7. Develops and provides patient treatment and education plans. 8. Conducts preventive screening procedures based on age and history. 9. Provides wellness care, health promotion, health maintenance, and disease prevention care. 10. Initiates and monitors health maintenance in conjunction with the patient, family/significant other and members of the multi-disciplinary team. 11. Provides and promotes teamwork support and collaboration with multi-disciplinary team members. 12. Participates in interdisciplinary team conferences to assure quality patient care management. 13. Participates in the quality assurance program and actively participates in monitoring for and identifying clinical quality issues and is actively involved in process improvement initiatives and implementation of corrective actions when indicated. 14. Act as consultant to nursing personnel, physicians and other health care consultants in their area of clinical experience. 15. Determine, in collaboration with Attending physician, appropriate admissions, discharges referrals and transfers to different levels of care and coordinates management of patient with attending physicians and the Interdisciplinary team. 16. Supervisory Controls: The PA works within the parameter of approved protocols and the departmental policies and procedures with administrative oversight by their respective Department Head. The employee is responsible to independently plan, organize and coordinate work; solve problems, interpret the extent to which protocols may be modified or adapted, interpret policies and regulations and initiate pilot work projects to determine new methodology. The PA apprises the supervisor of controversial or very unusual clinical and administrative situations, and presents recommendations for solving them. The supervisor utilizes the data to evaluate overall work performance, but generally reviews the PA's work for overall effectiveness in meeting the objectives of the position. The incumbent seeks guidance on complicated or questionable cases with a collaborating physician when needed. VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package. Qualifications

Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Physician Assistant Basic Requirements Master's degree in any discipline or a bachelor's degree in any discipline with one year of experience as a Physician Assistant ~AND~ Successfully passed the PA National Certifying Exam (PANCE) (or are you in the process to taking the exam) ~AND~ Currently hold, or will hold, a full and unrestricted license to practice in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or in the District of Columbia. Preferred Experience: Primary Care outpatient panel management Grade Determinations: will be based on education and experience References: VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-8 Physician Assistant Qualification Standard. This can be found in the local Human Resources Office. The full performance level of this vacancy is 03. Physical Requirements: To perform in a fully successful manner, the individual must have the physical ability to perform job-related duties which may require light carrying (under 15 pounds), reaching above shoulder, use of fingers, both hands required, walking (up to 1 hour), standing (up to 1 hour), and both legs required. In addition, there may be exposure to the following environmental factors: working inside and outside, working closely with others, and protracted or irregular hours of work. A health examination must be successfully completed prior to this assignment and periodically thereafter as required by the Occupational Health Clinic policy. There may be intermittent exposure to blood and body fluids.
