Reclamation is seeking a career professional looking for an opportunity to capitalize on their expertise as a Engineering Technician (Materials). You can make a difference in the West by assisting in meeting increasing water demands while protecting the environment.
Duty Location: Provo, Utah
Duties
Perform difficult but precedented technical engineering evaluation and analysis assignments or analyze segments of broader issues or problems.
Gather data for evaluations from a variety of sources, including databases, field notes, maps, land classification resources, environmental analyses, geotechnical reports, design charrettes. etc.
Assemble, install, and employ a variety of complex precision instruments, gauges, and devices; modify or adapt instruments, parts, and equipment to obtain desired performance characteristics; devise experimental techniques; and observe significant trends in data.
Draft technical documentation for assigned engineering work assignments which includes analysis, inspection, and test reports and documentation requiring a high degree of precision and using a variety of presentation techniques.
Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: To be considered minimally qualified for this position, you must demonstrate that you have the required specialized experience and/or education for the respective grade level in which you are applying:
GS-05:
Specialized Experience: Must possess at least one year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-4 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector performing the following: 1) assisting with data collection; 2) assisting with computations; 3) assisting with testing or inspections.
OR
Education: Successful completion of full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree (a) with major study in an appropriate field of engineering, engineering or industrial technology, construction, physics, drafting, surveying, physical science or mathematics or (b) that included at least 24 semester hours in any combination of courses such as engineering or industrial technology, construction, physics, drafting, surveying, physical science, or mathematics. NOTE: You must submit copies of your college transcripts.
OR
Combination of Education/Experience: Have an equivalent combination of specialized experience and education described above. Only education more than the first 60 semester hours of a course of study leading to a bachelor's degree is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirements. To calculate the education percentage, first total your semester hours beyond for first 60 semester hours and divide by 60; then take the number of months of full-time experience and divide by 12 (part-time will be prorated). Add the percentages together. The total must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. Note: You must submit copies of your college transcripts.
GS-06:
Specialized Experience: Must possess at least one year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-5 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector performing the following: 1) performing inspections of soils; 2) performing safety or calibration and inspections to determine that equipment meets the requirements; 3) inspecting or testing material typically used in construction.
OR
Education: Successful completion 1 full year (18 semester hours) of graduate level education leading to a Master's degree or a Master's degree in an appropriate field of engineering, engineering or industrial technology, construction, physics, drafting, surveying, physical science or mathematics. NOTE: You must submit copies of your college transcripts.
GS-07:
Specialized Experience: Must possess at least one year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-6 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector in the follow: 1) using equipment in the preparation, design, and evaluation of materials; 2) working with material typically used in construction including soils, aggregates, and concrete. 3) performing a variety of standardized inspections of materials being used in construction.
OR
Education: Successful completion 1 full year (18 semester hours) of graduate level education leading to a Master's degree or a Master's degree in an appropriate field of engineering, engineering or industrial technology, construction, physics, drafting, surveying, physical science or mathematics. NOTE: You must submit copies of your college transcripts.
GS-08:
Specialized Experience: Must possess at least one year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-7 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector performing materials testing in accordance with the American Society of Testing and Materials and other national testing standards. 1) Utilizing the regulations, rules, policies, testing standards and practices governing construction projects; 2) recommending and/or performing proper testing procedures; 3) recognizing and reporting anomalies, inconsistencies, and deficiencies in technical data; 4) preparing inspection result reports.
OR
Education: Successful completed two years of graduate level education in an appropriate field of engineering, engineering or industrial technology, construction, physics, drafting, surveying, physical science or mathematics. NOTE: You must submit copies of your college transcripts.
GS-09:
Specialized Experience: Must possess at least one year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-8 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector interpreting and reviewing results of laboratory tests performed to ensure materials acceptability and experience performing materials testing in accordance with the American Society of Testing and Materials and other national testing standards. 1) reviewing specification for proposed engineering projects to provide evaluation and advice; 2) reading and interpreting blue prints, drawings and or specifications to ensure contractor work meets requirements and standards; 3) Interpreting or reviewing test results; 4) providing oversight on construction projects and document progress and issues.

Education: Successful completed two years of graduate level education in an appropriate field of engineering, engineering or industrial technology, construction, physics, drafting, surveying, physical science or mathematics. NOTE: You must submit copies of your college transcripts.

One year of specialized experience is equivalent to 12 months at 40 hours per week. Part-time hours are prorated. You will not receive any credit for experience that does not indicate exact hours per week or is listed as "varies".

Education
To qualify based on education, you must submit a legible copy of transcripts from an
accredited institution with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking. Transcripts do not need to be official, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work.
If you are using
education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that your education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
GRADUATE EDUCATION: One academic year of graduate education is considered to be the number of credits hours your graduate school has determined to represent one academic year of full-time study. Such study may have been performed on a full-time or part-time basis. If you cannot obtain your graduate school's definition of one year of graduate study, 18 semester hours (or 27 quarter hours) should be considered as satisfying the requirement for one year of full-time graduate study.
