The typical seasonal entry-on-duty period is November through January, but can be variable during these months due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding. Anticipated Entry on Duty: November 2023- January 2024.
Duties
Operating multiple types of heavy engineering equipment inclusive of but not limited to: gasoline or diesel-powered heavy equipment, five cubic-yard dump trucks, road graders, and front-end loaders. Operated heavy equipment to move and load material such as dirt, and other material. Operate vehicles with auxiliary attachments (e.g., mowers, sweeper, sanding units) to perform duties. Operate trucks and equipment with multiple operating functions like a front loader. Operate various types of equipment and trucks on congested roadways, in inclement weather and on steep and narrow roadways. Loads secures and hauls equipment to and from project sites using truck and trailer.
Physical Demands: Heavy physical effort is required in constantly reaching, bending, turning, and moving hands, arms, feet, and legs to handle different sets of controls to operate the equipment and attachments. Considerable strain is caused by the constant vibration of the equipment and the jerking and jolting from operating over rough surfaces. Frequently lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds and often puts forth similar effort when pushing, pulling, turning and positioning parts, assemblies, equipment and tools.
Working Conditions: Works both inside and outside with the majority of work being performed outside. When working outside, worker is frequently exposed to inclement weather. Incumbent works in rain, mud, snow, and in hot/cold temperatures. The operator is frequently exposed to irritation or discomfort from dust, fumes, oils, solvents and cold and dampness. Worker is frequently exposed to the possibility of receiving cuts, abrasions, bruises and strains while servicing and operating equipment. Summer conditions could include noise, and potential hazards in the form of poisonous plants, insects, wild animals and snakes. Follows prescribed safety practices and uses safety equipment such as protective hearing devices and hard hats.
Qualifications
Have the ability to do the work of and Engineering Equipment Operator without more than normal supervision. (Screen out) This includes work such as operating one or more types of the following heavy engineering equipment: gasoline or diesel-powered heavy equipment, five cubic-yard dump trucks, road graders, and front-end loaders. Operate equipment to move and load material such as dirt, rocks and other material. Experience in operating vehicles with auxiliary attachments. Experience in trash truck operation. I am able to operate various types of equipment and trucks on congested roadways, in inclement weather and on steep and narrow roadways.
