This position is located in the Environmental, Safety, Health and Energy (ESHE) Division, United States Mint at Denver. The ESHE Division oversees all aspects of safety, occupational health and environmental aspects at the Mint. The purpose of this position is to ensure the Denver Mint complies with current laws, regulations and ordinances regarding chemical products that are considered hazardous. Serves as advisor to management on environmental and hazardous chemical product issues.
Duties
As an Environmental Protection Specialist, you will:
Plan and implement programs to ensure the Mint complies with all applicable requirements for use, storage, discharge, emissions, and disposal of hazardous chemical products.
Assure legal requirements for storing, classifying, manifesting, labeling, packaging, transportation, and disposing of hazardous wastes are carried out.
Determine the requirements for obtaining permits from local, State, or Federal regulatory agencies. Prepare and file the necessary documents to obtain and maintain such permits.
Develop and conduct a variety of training to Mint employees who are responsible for handling hazardous chemical products and wastes. Conduct follow-up refresher training as required.
Identify the need for engineering studies and projects to prevent or reduce emissions or discharges of pollutants or hazardous waste and coordinate with the appropriate management teams to determine what environmental factors need to be considered when facility projects are being planned.
Qualifications
You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
Specialized experience: For the GS-12, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes:
- Preparing written reports giving recommendations for solving environmental issues or problems; AND
- Monitoring compliance or training on the preparation of environmental compliance reviews; AND
- Preparing environmental assessments or impact statements.
