About the Position: Serves as a working leader to a group of 5-7 employees in order to accomplish trades and labor work by providing instructions and task assignments to individual members and answering questions on procedures and policies. Responsible for ensuring adequate workload is available to all employees while checking work progress and enforcing adherence to safety and housekeeping rules.

Duties

Serves as working leader of 5-7 employees in accomplishing trades and labor work. Passes on to other workers instructions received from supervisor, and starts work (e.g., by assigning the immediate tasks to be performed by individual members of the group led). Ensures that needed plans, blueprints, material, and tools are available, and that needed stock is obtained from supply locations. Checks work in progress and when finished, checks for compliance with supervisors instructions on work sequences, procedures, methods, and deadlines. Answers workers questions regarding procedures, policies, written instructions, and other directives. Operates controls of forklift, maneuvers loaded forklift in narrow spaces, and determines safe weights, heights, widths, etc. to properly move and place loads. Possesses thorough knowledge of hard and soft woods, wood substitutes, grades and machining characteristics to select proper materials for construction of containers.

I am skilled in ensuring there is enough work to keep everyone in work crew busy, check work in progress, and answers workers questions regarding procedures, policies, written instructions, and other directives. Operating forklifts to facilitate loading and unloading with a high degree of independence. I am considered an expert and work with a high degree of independence. I have the ability to perform the full range of Woodworker (Blocker and Bracer) tasks such as planning and constructing custom containers and material handling items from wood or wood substitute materials. Pass on to other workers instructions received from supervisor and starts work by assigning the immediate tasks to be performed by individual members of the group. I am skilled in ensuring there is enough work to keep everyone in work crew busy, and answers workers questions regarding procedures, and written instructions. I work on my own initiative under general supervision subject to occasional inspection. I have the ability to perform common tasks such as pass on to other workers instructions received from supervisor. I can answer workers questions regarding procedures and written instructions. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. I have the ability to perform simple duties such as pass on to other workers instructions received from supervisor or I have received training on answering workers questions regarding procedures, and written instructions. Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprint reading)Ability To Lead or SuperviseKnowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc.Measurement and LayoutTechnical Practices (Theoretical, precise, artistic) Physical Effort: The work requires heavy, strenuous, tiring work for prolonged periods. Incumbent continuously lifts, carries, and positions tools and materials weighing up to 45 pounds. Moves or positions extremely heavy items using jacks, levers or assistance from other workers. Work requires standing, stooping, reaching and other uncomfortable working positions. Often works in cramped or awkward positions and may have to climb upon or crawl under vehicles or structures. Working Conditions: Work is performed both inside and outside and the incumbent is frequently exposed to disagreeable heat, coldness, dampness, wind, rain, noise, possible cuts from power tools, handling lumber, spiking, nailing, and other work. There is exposure to nose and lung irritation from dust and sawdust. Often exposed to injury from falling objects, falls in and around conveyances, or vehicle/pedestrian accidents. There is exposure to skin and eye irritation from wood treatment chemicals. Must wear protective eyeglasses, a face shield, protective ear devices, gloves, hard hats, steel-toed safety shoes, or other protective equipment.
