The purpose of the Supervisory Medical Administration Specialist position is to provide oval operational and administrative management support to the office of the Chief, Health Administration Service. The incumbent performs programmatic and supervisory duties to ensure the efficient and effective provision of health care services to patients accessing care at the Central Alabama Veterans Health Care System (CAVHCS).
Duties
The Supervisory Medical Administration Specialist serves as the Section Chief, for the Patient Access & Scheduling section and is organizationally aligned under the Assistant Chief of Health Administration Service (HAS). The incumbent is responsible for program administration, analysis, supervision, and coordination of services in support of the various units under the Patient Access & Scheduling section. Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 08/23/2023.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
For a (GS-12) position you must have served 52 weeks at the (GS-11). The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade.
You may qualify based on your experience as described below:
Specialized Experience (GS-12): You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade (GS-11) in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization.
Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to:
Knowledge of regulatory, licensing, and accrediting agency-requirements, and medical-legal responsibilities; supervision and oversight of the planning, directing and managing of the administrative support activities
Demonstrated organization, facilitation, communication, and presentation skills; planning, scheduling, and conducting projects and studies for analysis and evaluation of work operations
Resolving difficult and highly complex problems involving staffing, equipment and budget costs.
Thorough knowledge of varied functions of computer spreadsheets, database computer applications, etc.
Knowledge and experience in information privacy laws, access, release of information, and release control technologies.
Skill in data validation processes; and staff recruitment and training.

Physical Requirements: Most work is performed in an office setting with adequate light, heat, and ventilation. Work is mostly sedentary; but requires some bending, walking, standing, lifting, and carrying of light items, such as reports to various areas of the Medical Center. Working at the computer for long periods of time and accessing information from the various computer systems is necessary. Typical office setting is subject to noise caused by multiple visits by staff, equipment and telephone interruptions when performing various functions daily. The work requires no special physical demands.
Work Environment: The work is performed in an office or similar setting requiring normal safety precautions against everyday risks or discomforts. The incumbent may experience some exposure to communicable diseases, verbal or physical abuse. The work is performed in an office setting and involves everyday risks or discomforts that require normal safety precautions. Ability to communicate with irate or verbally abusive public may, on occasion, be necessary. The work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts that require normal safety precautions. Also, involves everyday risks or discomforts that require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, meeting and training rooms, or libraries. The work area is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated. The position may require occasional travel including travel between campuses and/or remote community-based outpatient clinics.
