Duties

If selected, you will serve as a Financial Litigation Technician for the Civil Division's Financial Litigation Unit (FLU) in the United States Attorney's Office for the Western District of Washington. Typical work assignments will include: Obtaining and analyzing financial information on debtors; Initiating contact with debtors concerning payment of their obligations and their ability to pay; Analyzing claims to determine the type of indebtedness to record; Drafting and/or preparing letters, forms and reports necessary to initiate the collection of debts; Entering and tracking financial data in automated systems and spreadsheets; and Verifying that payment transactions are properly documented and identifying any discrepancies. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.

Requirements

  • You must be a U.S. Citizen or National
  • Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory pre-employment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation
  • You must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable
  • If selected, you may be required to complete a one year probationary period.
  • You must meet all qualification requirements upon the closing date of this announcement.

Qualifications

GS-7: To be qualified at the GS-7 level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-6 level in federal service. Examples of specialized experience include: obtaining and analyzing financial asset information on debtors to identify discrepancies and prepare payment plans; communicating with debtors to present options for debt payments, answer questions, explain procedures, and clarify information; preparing routine documentation required to take legal actions; crosschecking the accuracy of payment transactions with Court records and documents. GS-8: To be qualified at the GS-8 level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 level in federal service. Examples of specialized experience include: interpreting and enforcing judgments in criminal cases; initiating contact with debtors concerning payment obligations, their ability to pay, and negotiating written payment schedules to assure successful collection of debts; reviewing and reconciling computerized debt collection printouts with office collection records; drafting and/or preparing letters, forms, and reports necessary to initiate the collection of debts; preparing technical pleadings, orders, and other legal documentation necessary to take legal actions; and making recommendations concerning settlements, write-offs and liquidations of civil and/or criminal judgments. Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP)- The ICTAP provides eligible displaced Federal competitive service employees with selection priority over other candidates for competitive service vacancies.
