You will serve as an Interdisciplinary Engineer/Scientist in the Weapons and Warfare Systems Department of NAVAIRWARCENWPNDIV CHINA LAKE.

Duties

You will work in a dynamic environment as a member of the Sidewinder Test and Evaluation Team and will be responsible for planning, reporting, coordination, and execution of flight, ground, and lab tests. You will draft, review, and submit test plans for use with VX-31 Test Squadron. You will interact with external organizations, Test Squadrons (VX-31 and VX-9), F/A-18 Advanced Weapons Lab (AWL). You will schedule range resources and communicate with range test managers, using AMPSS to schedule aircraft for test. You will prepare test cards, mission planning, brief aircrew on planned events, conduct events the test bay, and present results to stakeholders.

  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • A relocation incentive is generally a single payment intended to offset some of the relocation costs experienced by the selectee. A relocation incentive may be authorized.

Qualifications

In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-09-11) or pay band (DP-03) in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector in order to perform the duties of an Interdisciplinary Engineer/Scientist. Specialized experiences must include some or all of the following: (1) Demonstrating experience using Test & Evaluation (T &E) processes to test weapons, sensors, or platform systems; 2) Exhibiting knowledge and or possessing skills to develop testable scenarios, profiles, procedures, and test cards which are technically sound; 3) Demonstrating experience in training and mentoring personnel in T & E processes; and 4) Working with program office, joint services, and contractors to ensure T & E requirements are met. 0801 Series:
Successful completion of a degree in Engineering. To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor's degree in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by ABET; or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics.
OR
A Combination of education and experience -- college-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying engineering, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering.

1310 Series:
Successful completion of a degree in Physics.
OR
Successful completion of a related degree that included at least 24 semester hours in physics.

1515 Series:
Successful completion of a degree in Operations Research
OR
At least 24 semester hours in a combination of operations research, mathematics, probability, statistics, mathematical logic, science, or subject-matter courses requiring substantial competence in college-level mathematics or statistics. At least 3 of the 24 semester hours must have been in calculus.

1520 Series:
Successful completion of a degree in Mathematics
OR
Successful completion of a degree equivalent of a major that included at least 24 semester hours in mathematics.

1550 Series:
Successful completion of a degree in Mathematics
OR
Successful completion of a degree equivalent of a major that included at least 24 semester hours in mathematics.


OR
A combination of experience and education as described above that equates to one year of experience.
