The Program Support Assistant (Health Benefits) makes eligibility determinations for VA healthcare which requires an extensive knowledge of VA laws, directives, policies and procedures. The incumbent will be responsible for running data reports for unverified status of applications, incomplete encounter management errors due to any administrative data input and updating demographic information.
Duties
Serves aa an advisor and expert to the HAS Section Chief and supports the management information components of all health eligibility related programs
Reviews the Incomplete Encounter Management Module report in order to clean up any discrepancies in administrative data that would prevent the transmission of encounters; reviews, verifies, and analyzes data submitted for consistency with financial and program objectives, and adherence to VA directives
Trains and provides organizational development, computes extremely complex computing technology, provides medical information, high level communication skills, and provides a vast knowledge of computer skills to create and capture data within the Veteran's Health Information & Technology Architecture system
Assists the Public Affairs Office, as well as, other services within the facility with community activities such as Health Fairs, Homeless Veterans Stand Downs, and Post Deployment Health Re-assessment
Enters various data into the system such as patient data, names, addresses, marital status, and emergency contact information
Assures that new veterans are entered into the system and are registered within 7 days of receipt of their application
Accurately generates patient data cards for veterans applying for care using the Veterans Health Identification Card system
Responsible for assisting with the patient vesting and assures appropriate monitoring and reporting is accomplished within established time frames
Makes special arrangements according to veteran's medical condition and/or preference with a high priority emphasis on SCI, TBI, OEF/OIF/OND patients
May be assigned duties in other areas of the Health Administration Service and provide back up as needed
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm

Physical Requirements: The work requires walking, standing, bending, lifting, and sedentary. The position requires constant viewing of a computer. Frequent walking to various locations of the hospital with records of patients is necessary.

GS-06 grade level: One year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the federal service); experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) and other characteristics to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience includes: Knowledge in interpreting public laws regulations, manuals, and directives as it relates to determining if requirements for eligibility for health care are met. Knowledge in operating standard office equipment and computer software. Knowledge in processing enrollment for health care applications, reviewing applications for accuracy, and adhering to the set time limits. Ability to communicate with customers from diverse backgrounds orally and in writing.
