Duties

Provide customer service and support by processing internal and external requests received by phone, mail, e-mail, in person or by fax for records or BLM Alaska information. Maintain records in accordance with established policies and procedures. Conduct research necessary to respond to written or in-person inquiries by researching and copying case file folders, including master title plats, historical indexes, survey records, and patents. Provide specific information on procedures to be followed in filing and processing of applications on the various uses of lands and mineral resources, including data and eligibility requirements. Perform duties as a designated collections officer/cashier and as such, are held accountable for funds collected and are responsible for ordering and maintaining inventories for publications for sale and public distribution.

Qualifications

In order to be rated as qualified for this position, we must be able to determine that you meet the qualification requirements - please be sure to include this information in your resume. For GS-05: You must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-04 level that is equivalent in difficulty and complexity as indicated by the following examples: respond to a variety of inquiries by providing general information, answering questions, and using online or print resources to assist in customer service; provide direction to customers on filing requirements; research requests for copies of documents; assist customers by copying documents and maps and responding to written requests for information. -OR- Education: have completed four (4) years of education above high school leading to a bachelor's degree in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the prerequisite. - OR- Combination of Education and Experience: You may meet qualifications requirement for this position with an equivalent combination of specialized experience and appropriate undergraduate education. For GS-06: You must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 level that is equivalent in difficulty and complexity as indicated by the following examples: research and respond to inquiries concerning use of public lands or resources, such as land status, hunting and fishing opportunities, and recreational opportunities; provide direction to customers regarding regulations such as where activities can or cannot take place; prepare written responses to received inquiries; research requests for copies of documents; assist customers by using online resources to research and copy official documents. For GS-07: You must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-06 level that is equivalent in difficulty and complexity as indicated by the following examples: research and respond to inquiries concerning use of public lands or resources such as land status, hunting and fishing opportunities, mining claims, oil and gas leases and permits, rights of ways, and recreational opportunities; write standard operating procedures and/or other procedural guidance to increase operating efficiencies; advise others on complex or difficult inquiries and resolve problems referred by them; control and lifecycle records management; process, reconcile, and reallocate financial transactions; safeguard personally identifiable information; train or instruct others in administrative procedures and the use of computer programs; and liaison work with other offices. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement. Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade requirement in accordance with 5 CFR 300.604. If you are a current Federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must have completed a minimum of 52 weeks at the next lower grade level.
