The Program Support Assistant (PSA) is assigned to the Office of Chief, Medical Service. The incumbent's primary duty is to act as program coordinator for all the medical trainees in Medical Service. The duty requires the incumbent to act as a liaison between the DC VA Medical Center and affiliated institutions, including George Washington University, George University, Howard University, Uniformed Services University, and the National Institutes of Health.
Duties
Duties to include but not limited to:
The incumbent must possess the ability to provide administrative support and coordination of various functions within the Office of Chief, Medical Service.
Ability to provide timely assistance to staff, medical students, residents, Fellows, and patients as needed.
Work with clients and customers to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; and is committed to providing quality services.
Process incoming and outgoing correspondence or other documents; screen out items that require personal attention, and disseminate remaining items to the appropriate office.

Functions as liaison between clinical practitioners and Veterans referred to various services within the DCVAMC.
Monitor and properly manage multiple clinic grid schedules, ensuring proper establishment and closures.
Collaborates with multidisciplinary teams regarding program or service level policies, evaluations, recommendations, and documentation.
Other duties as assigned
The incumbent will perform a wide variety of administrative tasks associated with maintaining and supporting the work performed within the organization. Such work includes a variety of administrative functions necessary to the smooth management of an office. The functions range from correspondence and information control to tracking equipment, supplies, and services. In addition, the position may act as the primary liaison between the program office in the administrative offices outside the organization.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 08/30/2023.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-7 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-6. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-6 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Verifying of information in health care provider files; Maintaining confidentiality of information in accordance with the Privacy Act; Provides quality control checks on data; managing multiple projects and priorities and meets deadlines; using software applications such as word processing and data bases and internet database applications for data entry, file maintenance and data retrieval; and researching reference materials, regulations, and standards to identify appropriate action necessary to correct problems or issues. NOTE: Experience must be fully documented on your resume and must include job title, duties, month and year start/end dates AND hours worked per week.
Preferred Experience: At least 1-year of previous administrative experience with a proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to work independently and in a team setting; possess strong attention to detail and organizational skills. Required soft skills: Customer service awareness, ability to prioritize and multitask, flexible and adaptable, as well as great problem solving and critical thinking skills.

Physical Requirements: The work is sedentary. It occasionally requires the carrying of light objects such as files, books, and papers. No special physical qualifications are required, other than the ability to sit and use a workstation, as well as a telephone.
