This position is located in the Legal Division, Corporate Operations Branch, Opinions and Research Unit of the FDIC and provides support in the areas of developing legal opinions relating to the applicability to the FDIC of various laws, regulations, and other executive branch issuances and providing research and support for corporate matters, including an employee retirement plan, labor relations, the Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council, and the FDIC’s advisory committees.
Duties
-Prepares or oversees the preparation of FDIC legal opinions addressing a wide range of legal and policy issues affecting the FDIC and its operations, many of which are sensitive and confidential, and are matters of first impression that impact the FDIC’s operations and personnel, including such matters as the applicability of various statutes, regulations, policies, or Executive Orders to the FDIC.
Qualifications
Qualifying experience may be obtained in the private or public sector. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic, religious/spiritual; community; student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. To qualify, applicants must have completed at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the 14 grade level or above in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as experience is defined as (1) preparing or overseeing the preparation of legal opinions addressing legal and policy issues affecting an organization and its operations; (2) providing assistance in addressing legal issues related to Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA) or Internal Revenue Code provisions affecting employee benefit plans, personnel, and employee matters; and (3) providing advice and counsel to senior management on matters related to labor relations.

J.D. or LL.B Degree required.
And
Active Membership in good standing of the bar of at least one state, territory, commonwealth, or the District of Columbia.
