Two supervisory positions are available -- Caregiver Support and Medicine/Surgery
CSP Major Duties:
The incumbent develops and facilitates CSP- focused direction, orientation, coaching, in-service training, staff development, and continuing education programs for VA facility staff and the community. Outreach requirements include but are not limited to event planning for National Family Caregiver Month. The incumbent plans and develops with the Program Coordinator, and oversees all components of Caregiver Support and services involved in the Caregiver Support Program.
The incumbent directly supervises the Caregiver Support Program Coordinators, Senior Social Workers and Social Services Assistants. The incumbent facilitates program implementation with multiple clinical services across all campus locations within the VA facility, including but not limited to: nursing; physical, occupational, and speech therapists; mental health and primary care providers.
The incumbent performs the administrative and personnel management function relative to staff supervised including personnel actions, consultation, negotiation with other departments, and quality improvement. Works collaboratively with internal staff, VISN and VACO leadership, and external stakeholders to expedite service delivery. Provides consultation and briefings to other staff and internal/external stakeholders on the special needs of caregivers.
The incumbent is responsible for monitoring performance measures at the local, VISN, and Central Office levels; providing responses to congressional inquiries; and briefings to providers, VA leadership, community organizations and other internal and external stakeholders. The incumbent develops policies and procedures for program operation, and prepares reports and statistics for facility, VISN, and national use. The incumbent manages CSP clinical and business operations, accountability for program effectiveness, and modification of service patterns to comply with the delivery of standardized processes found within relevant Directives. The incumbent supports customer satisfaction, well-being and service delivery. The incumbent recognizes gaps in workforce competencies and ensures supervised staff who require knowledge and skill development receive the training necessary to execute their duties. The incumbent certifies staff completion of all required annual and ad hoc trainings through documentation and reporting.
The incumbent works collaboratively with the Caregiver Support Assistant Nurse Manager, Nurse Manager, Occupational Therapy Supervisor, and Primary Care Supervisor to coordinate any programmatic needs across disciplines working within the CSP. The incumbent works closely with the CSP Coordinator to facilitate smooth operations of the program.
May be responsible to manage additional Social Work programs as necessary. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Medicine/Surgery Major Duties:
The supervisor is responsible to plan the Medicine/Surgery Section of Social Work Service, determine staffing requirements and assign, in conjunction with the Chief and members of treatment teams, staff areas of responsibility where their special individual skills are best utilized.
The supervisor makes decisions on work problems presented by social work staff, social work supervisors, and managers throughout the Medical Center. She/He exercises supervisor authorities and responsibilities involving work assignment and review, as well as the administrative and personnel management functions relative to the staff supervised. The incumbent develops work improvement plans, recommending personnel actions as necessary. He/She invokes disciplinary measures as appropriate to the authority delegated in this area, and recommends awards and changes in position classification to the Chief.
Duties shared with the Chief of Social Work Service include: planning social work programs, policies and procedures; projecting the budget, providing data to DSS related to staffing and resource allocation; monitoring productivity data; providing standards and opportunities for staff to receive continuing education; assuring staff meet the licensure requirement in a timely manner, representing Social Work Service in interactions with counterparts; and, participating in VISN 22 and medical center committees as assigned.

Qualifications
Basic Requirements:
United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
English Language Proficiency
Education: Have a master's degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE).
Licensure: Must be licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the master's degree level. Current state requirements may be found by going to http://vaww.va.gov/OHRM/T38Hybrid/
May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria).
Grade Determinations: One year of experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level. Experience must demonstrate possession of advanced practice skills in a specialty area or in administration demonstrating progressively more professional competency and judgment. Candidate may have certification or other post-master's degree training from a nationally recognized professional organization or university that includes a defined curriculum/course of study and internship, or equivalent supervised professional experience.
Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: In addition to the experience above, candidates must demonstrate all the following KSAs:
Ability to independently organize work, set priorities, and meet multiple deadlines.
Skill in a range of supervisory duties which includes clinical supervision, consultation, negotiation with other departments and quality improvement.
Ability to ensure provision of clinical social work services by supervised social workers.
Ability to delegate authority, manage priorities, coordinate work, and follow up on pending issues to complete duties in an accurate and timely fashion.
Ability to analyze organizational and operational problems, develop and implement solutions that result in efficient operations, and use data effectively to manage workload, quality, performance, and productivity within the service.
Ability to provide staff training and development.

Physical Requirements: Traveling throughout the medical center and the community is required, as is performing activities involving sitting, walking, and standing, bending and carrying such items as books, papers, and files. In carrying out responsibilities it may be necessary for the incumbent to travel into the community where he/she conducts interviews with the Veterans, their families, representatives of community health and welfare agencies and law enforcement agencies. The incumbent must possess current driver's license and drive a government vehicle in carrying out professional duties when deemed necessary.
