Duties

If selected for this position, you will join a well-respected team. Typical work assignments will include: Maintaining, managing, and organizing case files Preparing correspondence and pleadings in assigned cases Coordinating closely with client agencies Analyzing facts by reviewing all available documents, reports, and correspondence Evaluating the need for drafts, routine legal pleadings including discovery documents Assisting with plea agreements Providing assistance on legal automation requirements and systems capabilities to Legal support services include assistance with case management and case presentations as well as automated case litigation and management programs, as well as automated support necessary to prepare, organize, index, develop, and manage exhibits, evidence, and data. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.

Requirements

  • You must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
  • Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory pre-employment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation.
  • You must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable.
  • If selected, you may be required to complete a one year probationary period.
  • Time-in-Grade: Federal employees must meet time-in-grade requirements within 30 days after the closing date of this announcement.
  • You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days after the closing date of this announcement and before placement in the position.

Qualifications

GS-07: To be eligible at the GS-07 level, you must meet at least ONE of the following conditions: Specialized Experience: One full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 level in Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as: performing routine litigation support assignments such as assisting with organizing case information, including creating grand jury logs and organizing grand jury responses; preparing discovery productions, including scanning and coding documents and creating CDs; assisting attorneys in preparing for court such as preparing exhibits, compiling trial notebooks, compiling witness and exhibit lists; verifying citations; and preparing a variety of legal documents; assisting in the use of technology to organize digital evidence; and editing a variety of legal documents, such as information requests, subpoenas, correspondence and memos. Education: One full year of graduate education in a related field (e.g., Criminal Justice, Law) OR Completion of a full four year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree and meet one of the following superior academic achievement provisions: (1) a grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher for all completed undergraduate course work or for all courses completed in the last two full years of undergraduate work; (2) a GPA of 3.5 or higher for all courses in the major field of study, or those courses in a major completed in the last two full years of undergraduate work; (3) ranking in the upper one-third of a college, university, or major subdivision or (4) membership in a national scholastic honor society. Combining Education and Experience: Combinations of successfully completed graduate education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. GS-09: To be eligible at the GS-09 level, you must meet at least ONE of the following conditions. Specialized Experience: One full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is defined as: assisting an attorney with trial preparation, including making recommendations on how to proceed with trial presentations; utilizing office automation tools in order to create physical and digital trial presentations; working with investigators, agents, and legal support staff; handling a wide variety of evidence and discovery; and providing technical assistance to litigation teams. Education: One of the following types of education in a related field (e.g., Criminal Justice, Law): a Master's or equivalent graduate degree (such as an LL.B. or J.D.); OR two full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree. 8/7/2023 15:30 EDT Page 3 of 5 Combining Education and Experience: Combinations of successfully completed graduate education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements. To qualify based on a combination, graduate education must be in excess of 1 full year. Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP)- The ICTAP provides eligible displaced Federal competitive service employees with selection priority over other candidates for competitive service vacancies.
