This position is located in the Prosthetic and Sensory Aids Service (PSAS) at the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center and at its outpatient clinics. The incumbent will serve as the first point of contact for contact for internal and external customers.
Duties
Validates National Prosthetics Patient Database (NPPD) data by ensuring that proper codes are attached, along with correct costing data, vendor demographics to ensure line items are accurate on the patient record and purchase order.
Relay information and identify and resolve problems between PSAS and its customers, both internal and external.
Submit request for quote forms to contractors and vendors to obtain pricing for fabrication or repair of durable medical equipment.
Dispense off the shelf inventory items to patients and stock post the items to the patients' 2319 transaction record screen.
Verify entitlement for Prosthetic equipment through the prosthetic package before issuing the equipment to the patient.
Tracks, annotates, and documents receipt for equipment issued from DME warehouse request to Veterans 2319 transaction supply record.
Make minimal micro-purchases to pay invoices/quotes received in the service.
Assemble equipment (basic assemble) needing to be delivered to specialty services i.e., walker, wheelchairs, bathroom equipment.
Answers the telephone and takes complete messages.
Ascertains nature of requests and directs to appropriate staff, or personally provides the information desired when routine or procedural matters of the office are involved.
Receives, opens, reviews, and distributes all incoming mail received in the inventory room.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm, subject to change based on the needs of the Agency.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 08/30/2023.
You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-03 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: providing customer service to patients; performing clerical duties such as submitting quote requests to contractors and vendors; obtaining pricing for fabrication or repair of medical equipment; dispensing shelf inventory items; posting stock items to patients' transaction record; verifying entitlement for prosthetic equipment; tracking, annotating and documenting receipts of equipment; assembling equipment (such as walker, wheelchairs, bathroom equipment) for delivery. Note: This experience must be fully documented on your resume and must include job title, duties, month and year start/end dates AND hours worked per week.. OR,
Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have successfully completed two (2) years of education above high school level. Transcripts required. OR,
Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have an combination of completed post-high school education AND general experience listed above. Transcripts required.

Physical Requirements: The work of the incumbent is primarily sedentary. There is some walking, standing, bending and carrying of items up to 25 lbs. such as equipment and supplies provided to beneficiaries.
