Duties
Serve as a Supervisory Senior Scientist with responsibility for executing a systematic research plan to address identified focus areas within Extremity Trauma and Amputation Center of Excellence (EACE) research program.
Schedule, direct, and personally perform complex research, integrating and consolidating the work of co-investigators and colleagues through insight, analysis and interpretation.
Consolidate research for the EACE Chief of Research and Surveillance Division and subsequent publication in scientific journals and oral presentations at scientific conferences.
Maintain records and prepare project administrative and statistical reports for the EACE Chief of R and S Division.
Provide administrative oversight and program management to the EACE research program to include implementing comprehensive plan of action for developing and supporting research efforts and oversee the day-to-day operations of staff and projects.
Ensure that funding through foundations, research grant societies, government research agencies, and academic institutions are received, processed, and administered through the local Resource Management Division.
Provide scientific leadership and mentorship to researchers, scientists, technicians, and students within the EACE research program.
Serve as the subject matter expert for traumatic extremity injuries, orthopedic trauma, musculoskeletal health or next generation regenerative and bioengineering technologies.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
- One-year supervisory probationary period required. A one-year probationary period is required if the selectee has not previously met this requirement.

Basic Requirement for Supervisory Senior Scientist (EACE) GS-0601-14:
Degree: Bachelor's or graduate (or higher level) degree with major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. This degree must be from an educational program accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: planning and developing traumatic extremity injury research; assisting in the generation of extramural research grant proposals; and directing project research teams. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-13).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
