This position manages VHA supported software programs and /or Commercial off the Shelf (COTS) to support the effective management of food operations and patient meal services and focus on Nutrition and Food Services to include food production & food service operations; training and education of computer systems; collection and analysis of data, such as customer experience surveys, nutrient analysis, staffing and workload statics.

Employees in this assignment serve as a Supervisory Dietitian (Informatics) in NFS. They oversee the Nutrition Communication Center (NCC) providing administrative and technical supervision to the NCC employees. Supervisory Informatics Dietitians represent the NCC on projects, committees and/or workgroups. They supervise NCC wage grade and/or GS employees at grades GS-6 or below and provide oversight, leadership and personnel management. Supervisory Informatics Dietitians are thoroughly knowledgeable of and have full authority for planning, coordinating, and
implementing food service technology into the department. They are the subject matter expert in nutrition informatics and NFS technology and use this expertise in researching, evaluating, educating, and administering the use of technology for the benefit of Veterans and employees. Supervisory Informatics Dietitians are independent in their work as they use existing and new technology to ensure continuous evaluation and improvement within the service.
- The Supervisory Dietitian (Informatics) GS-11 reports directly to Supervisory Dietitian (GS -12) or above functions independently for all professional and technical aspects of their position.
-The incumbent is responsible for planning and organizing their own work, coordinating with staff and management personnel as appropriate. Work is reviewed for technical adequacy and conformance with VHA procedures and practices.
-They provide the supervisor with annual performance objectives, periodic activity reports, including recommendations for modifying operations for improved metrics. The incumbent ensures regulatory controls consistent with VHA, JC, OIT and other regulatory body standards.

Qualifications
Basic Requirements:
Citizenship. Be a citizen of the United States (U.S.). (Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.)
Registration. Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) or Registered Dietitian (RD) - Must be registered with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) the credentialing branch of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics formerly known as the American Dietetic Association (ADA).
Non-credentialed Dietitians must have fulfilled each of the following:
Earned a bachelor's or higher degree from a U.S. regionally accredited college or university or foreign equivalent. Foreign Education: To be creditable, college and/or university degrees earned outside the U.S and its territories must be evaluated by ACEND and meet ACEND's International Dietitian Education standards which are designed to provide graduates with the knowledge and competencies to sit for the CDR credentialing exam. ~AND~
Completed an ACEND accredited experiential or supervised practice program and provide a verification statement from the program director that conveys eligibility to take the CDR registration exam as a prospective RDN. A list of ACEND accredited programs are located on the ACEND website or at ACEND Accredited Programs Directory.
English Language Proficiency. Dietitian candidates must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance with 38 USC 7403(f).
Current VHA Dietitians that qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision may not be promoted to a higher grade if they do not meet the current RDN/RD requirements.
Grade Determinations: In addition to the basic requirements for employment listed above, the following experience and knowledge, skills, and abilities criteria must be met.
Supervisory Dietitian (Informatics), GS-11
Experience. One year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-9).
Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs). In addition to the experience above, candidates must demonstrate all the KSAs below:
Skill in managing computer software programs relative to food service systems.
Skill in applying nutritional knowledge to develop menus ensuring nutritional standards are met.
Skill in developing training and reference materials.
Skill in evaluating data to improve outcomes.
Skill in providing training related to food service systems technology.
Skill in collaborating with stakeholders.
Ability to supervise subordinate staff (i.e., plan organize, delegate, direct, control and review activities and performance).
