As a Trial Attorney (Civil Rights) at the GS-0905-13, you will be part of Legal Unit New York District Office, Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. If selected, you will have the full range of responsibilities for preparing and litigating employment discrimination cases under all of the federal statues enforced by the EEOC.
Duties
Reviewing charge files and recommending the initiation of litigation; Filing petitions for compliance with administrative subpoenas; Seeking temporary injunctive relief;
Filing motions to obtain compliance with court orders, decrees, and pre-suit settlement agreements; Prosecuting cases while ensuring consistency with EEOC litigation policies and judicial precedents;
Conducting discovery for litigation in federal court.
Preparing pretrial and post-trial briefs and materials; Conducting all facets of trials in federal courts; and Providing formal and informal legal advice and memoranda to agency personnel.
Preparing and presenting motions, responses, and oral arguments to the courts.
Prosecuting cases while ensuring consistency with EEOC litigation policies and judicial precedents.
Requirements
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or National
- Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service
- Suitable for Federal employment, determined by a background investigation
- May be required to successfully complete a probationary period
- Must have an Active BAR Membership in Good Standing. If selected, must maintain active bar membership in good standing while employed as an attorney with EEOC
- This position is in the Excepted Service
Qualifications
For the GS-13: You must have earned a professional law degree (J.D. or LL.B.) from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association, be an active member of the BAR, and have two years of professional legal experience with at least one year being equivalent to the GS-12 level.
Professional legal education above the first professional law degree may be substituted for experience required as follows:(a) The second professional law degree (LL.M) may be substituted for one year of experience (b) The third law degree (J.S.D) may be substituted for one year of experience beyond the LL.M.
