The Psychology Technician will work with the Mental Health Service Line's Psychological Testing Laboratory at the St. Cloud VA Medical Center, St. Cloud, MN. The Psychology Technician (Psychometrist) position is responsible for all aspects of the administration of the Psychological Testing Laboratory at the St. Cloud VA Health Care System. The Laboratory provides psychological, neuropsychological, and vocational testing to patients from all units and outpatient clinics in the Medical Center.
Duties

Administers, score, and interprets results of various psychological tests;
Provides testing related to the following types of examinations: Psychosocial Rehabilitation and Recovery Center, PTSD treatment programming, Compensation and Pension evaluations, Vocational Counseling, Neuropsychology, Integrated Disability and Evaluation System, Managing Overweight and/or Obesity for Veterans Everywhere, Pain Management, Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Program, and the Acute Psychiatric inpatient unit;
Interprets diagnostic manuals and understand and calculate math formulas and equations and psychological terminology;
Communicates all test findings and behavioral observations to the psychologist.
Performs a range of scheduling activities, such as incoming test referrals;
Utilizes computers to enter patient data/demographic information and to document actions taken or outcomes accomplished in a patient's medical record;
Monitors patient's functionality during testing and determine if consultation with a clinician is required;
Communicates with patients to clarify instructions for each test and explain the questions to those that have comprehension issues;
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Full Time, Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 4:30 pm

Physical Requirements: The position is largely sedentary. Occasional lifting of equipment will be required up to and including 15 pounds.
Qualifications

BASIC EDUCATION REQUIREMENT: Do you possess a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in an appropriate social or biological science, which included or was supplemented by 12 semester hours in Psychology? (TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED - If you do not submit a copy of your transcript, your application may not be processed.)~AND~
Have at least one (1) full year of technical work under the direction of a professional psychologist in a program of professional services, training, or research. At least six (6) months of such experience must be comparable in difficulty and responsibility to the next lower grade (GS-6) in the Federal service, or 1 full year equivalent to the second lower grade (GS-05). A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited based on time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must clearly indicate the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. ~OR~
Have successfully completed at least one (1) full year of graduate study in psychology in an accredited college or university to substitute for the 1 year of experience to meet in full the requirements at the GS-7 level. NOTE: Transcripts (unofficial or official) must be submitted with your application materials. Education cannot be credited without documentation. ~OR~
Have a bachelor's degree in a field that equips me to perform the work of the position, and I have Superior Academic Achievement (S.A.A.). S.A.A. is based on (1) class standing, (2) grade-point average, or (3) honor society membership. (TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED)
(1.) Class standing -- Applicants must be in the upper third of the graduating class in the college, university, or major subdivision, such as the College of Liberal Arts or the School of Business Administration, based on completed courses.
(2.) Grade-point average (G.P.A.)-- Applicants must have a grade-point average of: (a) 3.0 or higher out of a possible 4.0 ("B" or better) as recorded on their official transcript, or as computed based on 4 years of education, or as computed based on courses completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum; or (b) 3.5 or higher out of a possible 4.0 ("B+" or better) based on the average of the required courses completed in the major field or the required courses in the major field completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum. Grade-point averages are to be rounded to one decimal place. For example, 2.95 will round to 3.0 and 2.94 will round to 2.9.
(3.) Election to membership in a national scholastic honor society -- Applicants can be considered eligible based on membership in one of the national scholastic honor societies listed below. These honor societies are listed by the Association of College Honor Societies . Agencies considering eligibility based on any society not included in the following list must ensure that the honor society meets the minimum requirements of the Association of College Honor Societies. Membership in a freshman honor society cannot be used to meet the requirements of this provision.
